Sail Date: Apr 2017

We had some future cruise credit to use before December, thanks to a norovirus infected cruise on the Azura to the Carribean.

Lots of people on board and despite the queue to enter the embarkation centre, P and O should take some credit as the embarkation was quick, smooth and without delay.

Entry to the ship was from deck 5 midships (Atrium) and first impressions were very good. Decor tasteful and reserved. Still looking good after 2 years afloat.

Cabin Review

Cabin HE

Cabin with shower and balcony. Proper shower cabinet with screen rather than curtain. Wardrobe gone, clothes rail outside toilet with plenty of clothes hanger. Much better idea. Shelved cupboard with plenty of space and secure safe. Large tv, with online channels and film most for free viewing. Usual fridge, tea and coffee items and a couple of complimentary bottles of water. Balcony narrow but could fit both chairs together. In port the occasional whiff of tobacco from the smoking area on deck 7

Port Reviews

Gibraltar

Wlked up Main St to Cable car. Long queue caved in to taxi drivers and for the same money was whisked up the Rock. Stoped off at viewpoint a bit hazy, then the caves which are well worth the visit and then the Apes. It is all about the apes.

Barcelona

Thought the Hop on off would help but was very slow. Better use the metro if covering distance in the city otherwise choose what you wish to see and walk. Alighted hop bus and walked to the Sagradia then down towards Ramblas via Plaza d Catalunya and saw more Gaudi buildings. Very busy place.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Choose what you want to see as there is too much even for a weekend. Bought ticket for Forum, Colosseum and Palatine Hill at the entrance to the Forum near the museum. Still met with a huge queue for Colosseum. Offerred to join a tour group for extras15e which we did and beat the queues. Should be ticket machines available to enter the Forum and and entrance joining Forum and Colosseum. Touts all over the place.

Sardinia

See authentic Italy, visit Cagliari. Narrow streets, balconies with hanging washing. Local folk going about their business, no not that kinda business. Old town worth the walk up the hill but used the elevator. Wonderful views from the top over the city and its bays. Shops a plenty although effects of banking crisis on show. Lots of small restaurants with local dishes.

Seville

At Cadiz walked straight off the ship and into town within minutes. Turned right and walked around the coastal wall to the castle (free entry). Lovely almedas to walk through and sit down and take in the atmosphere. Wlaked up Calle Rosa, through narrow streets, small shops to the central market where we bought some newly baked bread from a stall. Delicious. Cadiz has two main square one outside the Cathedral the other out side the city hall. Both have cafe restaurants and street entertainment. The plaza outside the city hall has some small stallholders selling their artisan wares. Good quailty and reasonably priced bags, jewellery etc. No tourist trash. Cadiz well worth a visit.
