First off, we selected this cruise as it suited our schedule and for the stops. As for the stops, we enjoyed all of them (Nassau, Half-Moon Cay, Grand Turk and Amber Cover). As for the ship Carnival Splendor - it did meet our expectations. We knew it was a 10 year old ship and that the decor may be a little out-dated. That said, we thought it was very nice and clean overall. Food, shows and service all met our expectations - if not surpassed them. We find the food on Carnival to be excellent (this was our 2nd cruise with Carnival). My review is 4 out of 5 stars for a three reasons: 1) there were long wait times to exit the ship at two ports; we thought Carnival could have done a better job in managing the line ups. 2) Upon embarking on Day 1, Carnival could have done a better job in having information showing where to go in line; we had a 3pm boarding time, and had we not asked around, we would have found ourselves in the wrong line (small problem, but an easy one to fix by having a few signs posted informing people where to wait according to their boarding times). 3) Steam rooms should be free to use (you had to purchase some sort of pass which was kind of expensive). As for our cabin, it was as expected. We were on the 8th floor right below the Lido buffet.

Our steward Marianto was great. Room was clean and he actioned a couple of requests very efficiently.

Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

We stayed at the pool which was great. Lots and lots of free chairs. Our only criticism here is that there isn't a lot of shaded areas so you have to buy an umbrella. However, there is cheap beer! There's a small convenience store near the end of the zipline that caters mostly to crew members. You can find $2 cold beer there. Nice!

Half Moon Cay

By far the best beach we have ever been on. Beautiful white sand and turquoise waters. Lots of free chairs and shaded areas (we walked further away from the entertainment area to a quieter spot on the beach). We'll definitely be back here.

Nassau

We took a cab to Goodman's Point (public beach). This is part of Cable Beach. It was very quiet and the water was very nice to swim. Very nice beach. Lots of shaded areas (but no chairs) but we had our beach towels. The cab cost us $50 round trip for 5 people.
