WI decided on this trip as an opportunity to see Cuba before it changes too much with more tourism. Thought that a four day cruise would be a party ship, but was quickly surprised to find mostly middle aged and up adults who wanted to experience Cuba. The ship is newly redone and very clean. Staff was extremely friendly and wanting to please. The cabins was very clean and although small were fine for the short trip. Not much storage but not a problem. I booked a dining package and was very pleased with the food. While this is not a super gourmet experience, it was tasty and more than adequate. My brother had a steak in Cagney's that was huge and superb. Le Bistro and Il Adagio did not disappoint. Well worth the extra fee to go to a specialty restaurant every night.
While in Havana you are encouraged to go on tours to meet the regulations regarding culture interaction with local people. The tours through the ship were excellent. We went on a rum tasting, art and cigars tour with an excellent guide. He gave us a good overview of the area and we were able to go to a special tasting of rum and try a cigar. While I am not a smoker, it was fun to try the local rum with a fine Cuban cigar. Cannot say that I finished the cigar but an interesting insight into the local culture. The second tour we did was a tour of Havana in an American Classic car. A must do for anyone old enough to remember any old cars. It was fun to drive around in a 1948 Chevy for a few hours.
In the evening we did a tour to the Tropicana nightclub which was absolutely spectacular. I would go to this again in a heartbeat. The show is nonstop music and dancing for two hours. While the staff at the venue were a bit surly and not very pleasant, the show was so good that you did not care. A definite must see.
The cabin was very clean and quiet. I rarely heard any noise from the hallway or nextdoor the entire trip. The cabin steward, Vincy, was very attentive and willing to please. The storage in the rooms was very limited. The closet was fine but there were only three tiny drawers to put items in. Not bad for three days but definitely tight.
This port is owned by Norwegian Cruise Line. It is very clean but very limited in options if you are not a beach person. I am fair skinned and there was not much shade so I did not stay long. It was also very hot and even the locals were complaining about the heat. A little bit goes a long way.
