While not without flaws, a surprisingly good ship!

I took this trip to accompany my parents and their close friends. They were experienced cruisers, accustomed to six star service, but I was the newbie, so there was a nice clean slate.

Embarkation and Disembarkation was quite straightforward and smooth, 10 minutes each way on and off. RCL has gotten the process down to a science, running as smoothly as possible.

The ship itself is huge, built to an unbelievable scale. For the size of the ship, the service was remarkably good - scaling upwards (naturally) from the basic services (decent) to the enhanced services (food, spa, etc) quite nicely.

Cabin Review

Ocean View Stateroom

Cabin F

The cabin I was in was quite nice for the price - a great view, the last cabin on the starboard side of the ship towards the bow. The room's quite nicely laid out, with plenty of space to put your clothes away and room under the bed to stash your luggage.

The presence of a fridge was mostly unused as I had purchased a soda plan and just supplied myself with water now and then. Room service breakfast (the complementary continental option) was unfortunately rather bad, with the grits being um... offensively bad. However it was delivered as expected and on time, so I'm inclined to forgive them that disaster.

The bathroom was small but serviceable, as one would expect on a cruise ship. The bed was comfortable and the couch was a nice touch. The desk space is exactly enough really to be functional, with the expectation that you won't spend THAT much time in the cabin.

Of course, RCL's habit of putting in creative little animals with turndown service was cute and appreciated.

Port Reviews

Falmouth

If you're going to exit the port gates, realize that you're entering a town that wants to do business with you. Expect to be approached immediately by locals when you step past the gates, asking you if you want to smoke, drink, etc. Experienced travellers, or pick up a guide and give them a tip to take you around.

Pepper's was quite good for a quick stop for food. Then I popped back into the gated port for a "safe" bit of quick shopping for rum cake and coffee...

Labadee

So having the opportunity to sit and relax in the waters of the Caribbean was good, but the crowding was not. Funneling the number of people from a ship the size of the Harmony onto the private area was bound to lead to some serious crowding issues on the beaches. The food was... well, I'm one that would rather have local cuisine, not hot dogs and hamburgers like a company picnic. I especially didn't appreciate that for a private resort space, they then allow high pressure hustle in the marketplace area. Either build a full private resort or don't, the halfway methodology didn't work well.

Of the three spots, it felt like Labadee was the shakiest of the ports.
