Sail Date: May 2017

My husband and I wanted to leave the kids with grandparents and do something fun for our 15th anniversary. We came across a reasonably priced cruise on Empress of the Seas and decided to go for it. We hadn't been on a cruise since sailing on the Sovereign of the Seas for our honeymoon in 2002.

In the weeks leading up to the trip, I started reading more and more reviews of the Empress and became worried that we'd wasted our money. Nope, it turned out that that was not the case at all! Instead, we absolutely loved our time on this ship, and it offered a well-balanced mix between relaxation and activity.

First of all, our cabin was larger than I'd expected based on the reviews that I'd read. We had an outside room with an obstructed view. We had the beds pushed together, and there was space between the bed and the wall on both sides. Yes, the shower is small, but it worked for us. We were comfortable in the room and never had any issues with plumbing or the temperature in the room. It would be a pretty cozy room to share with a whole family (then again, there were no 3rd/4th berths, so that wouldn't even be an option) or even to share with someone who isn't a close friend, but for us, it was perfect.

Cabin Review

Cabin Outside w/obstructed view

The cabin was small but not cramped. There was plenty of space to store all of our stuff, even though we had overpacked.

We had the beds pushed together, and there was room to walk on either side of the bed.

The view was definitely obstructed with a lifeboat, but the window did the trick of letting in light, and we could see sky above and water below.

The bathroom was small--particularly the shower.

There was a good deal of storage space built into both the main room and the bathroom.
