We arrived the night before and stayed at the Intercontinental. How exciting it was to wake up, look out our window and there the Vista was. She's a beauty. We were picked up at the hotel at 9:30am and got to the port at 9:45am. We went directly to the priority line since we had a suite and our girls were in a Havana room. We were checked in and sitting in the Captain's lounge by 10:30am.

Around 11am, they started embarkation. Since our cruise 2 years ago, Carnival has changed their check in, they use tablets now to confirm who you are. When you first check in when you arrive, they scan your passport photo, but since our younger daughter's was old, they had to take her picture. They do it right there, and you're on your way.

When we entered the ship, we went directly to Guy's BBQ. There were plenty of seats and it wasn't busy yet. We were also able to get a drink (water or lemonade), since we didn't have our cards yet. After we finished, we took a walk to the girl's room and their key was in their mailbox. We got them settled.

Cabin Review

Ocean Suite

Cabin OS

My husband and I were in an Ocean Suite, Deck 7. We loved it. The suite was a lot larger than the one we had on the Liberty. The room steward Sunanthra was wonderful. She was always one step ahead of us. She knew what we wanted before we asked. Loved her. The suite is mid-ship which is perfect.

When you walk in the cabin, the large bathroom is on your left and a changing room with 2 closets is on your right. It took us a minute to figure out the lights. There’s a slot where you put your key when you walk it (on your right) and that’s what turns on the lights. There are other switches inside the room to turn on and off lights, but you have to have something in that slot for the lights to stay on. I didn’t realize it and I was standing in the room and all of the sudden the entire cabin went dark. It usually happens within 5 minutes. We found a piece of small cardboard that we left in there all the time or you can ask the room steward for a card. There is a switch directly above the bed that shuts off all lights in the room...that's wonderful!

The bathroom is huge. It has a double sink and a Jacuzzi tub; someday I’ll actually use the tub. The shower was wonderful. The shower head was clean and worked well. I never had a bad shower. There’s body wash and shampoo in the shower as well as a clothes line. There are also plenty of hooks in the bathroom also.

The cabin was roomy and never felt crowded. There isn’t anywhere to put your suitcases so we put them next to the couch, near the window (out of the way). The bed was very comfortable, we slept great. There’s a 50’ TV in the corner of the room and it’s perfectly placed so when you’re sitting in bed it’s directly in front of you. Turn it on every day; it welcomes you by name to the port you’re stopping in or if you’re having a sea day! There’s also a mini fridge and our room steward, without asking, kept our ice bucket filled with ice daily! There is plenty of places to put clothes and other items. There's the walk in closet, a bureau next to the bed with 3 drawers on one side (that also held the hairdryer) and a cabinet on the other side where the safe was as well as another area to put items. Under the TV was another area of cabinets. The only con I have for Carnival and their cabins; what is it with the hairdryer where you have to hold the button the entire time for it to work? Why can't they have normal hair dryers. When using the TV, they offer On Demand with about 16 movies (some free, some charged). If you purchase one, you have it for the entire time you're on the cruise. I thought I only had it for 24 hours, but a couple of days later, I turned on the TV and it was still active.

Port Reviews

Miami

Miami port is busy but they seem to move everyone alone.

Miami International is a whole other story. If you are going on a cruise, fly to Ft. Lauderdale. MIA is the worst airport I have EVER flown out of.

Grand Turk

Our girls hung out at the beach and we went back to the ship. Beach is beautiful. Nothing to do there.
