My husband and I have tried many lines so we thought this summer we would try Princess, the Caribbean Princess, to New England and Canada. The basic problem with this ship is that there were over 3600 passengers and the ship was too small to accomodate so many people. For example, if you didn't get to the small theater early, you would have to search and search for a seat. Passengers are not supposed to save seats so I sat down next to a woman saving 2 seats and got into an argument with her because I was there and her family was not. That's how difficult it is to find seating, not only there but in the lounges as well. Trivia was packed in the Wheelhouse Bar! We had to stand to play. It was ridiculous. This ship had the WORST dinner situation I had ever seen. You had to call early, at 7 am, for early reservations. I once woke up later and called at 7:30 and was told all that was left was 8:30 pm! Well, my husband and I don't eat that late so instead got to the restaurant at 6 pm and had to wait on a long line to get a table. What's worse is that we're used to a table for two by a window on other ships.(NCL Pearl and Gem have lots of windows with tables for two beside them). We like to watch the water while we dine since we enjoy it as part of the cruising experience. Otherwise we may as well be at an all-inclusive resort. Forget it on this ship! Not only did we never see the water, but the tables for 2 are gone by 6:00 and if you want one you have to wait. I always felt pressured to eat early even if I wasn't hungry just to get a table. This is absurd on a vacation. The shows were excellent. However two of the shows were repeated on the second night! So if you saw the show on the first night, you'd either have to see it again, or do without seeing a show on the second night. This is either because the theater couldn't accomodate 3600 people in one night or Princess was saving money. Either way, it stunk! I drink soy milk at breakfast. It took a long time to get some from one of the attendants. On Norwegian (Gem), it was right there on the buffet. There was no hand sanitizer by the main dining rooms, just by the buffet. There were not enough bathrooms for the ladies. There was often a line there too. There was no iced tea machine by the pool area like on other ships. Now, to be fair, Princess did give us two chocolate pieces on our pillow each night and offered free fruit, as much as we wanted, in our cabins. Nice touch. Also, the dining room was opened while in port so those people who didn't go ashore could dine nicely instead of at the frenetic buffet. That was nice too. Also, there was plenty to do. The Princess Patter was loaded with activities and the bands and entertainment were great. You could hear music all around the ship from early in the evening until late at night. There was also a daily tea time but it wasn't elegant like Costa and others. It was basic tea (no choice) with a selection of little sandwiches or pastries. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth as glass. And the oatmeal was the best I ever tasted. No kidding. However, even with all the good stuff, I kept saying to my husband- Princess Escape completely except for long lines!
