So lets start with the basics - anyone who is looking for a no frills cruise then this is for you. The embarkation went well and we arrived at our cabin around the time that was scheduled for us on our documents - 2pm. We had the good fortune to be upgraded but to be honest the upgrade was probably only a little better than our original cabin as it was still small but functional. The one saving grace was our cabin steward who was charming and always very polite - our cabin was kept in spotless condition. We had booked freedom dining but this turned out to be a little bit of a bun fight because about half the ship had so maybe we will opt for the conventional sitting next time we cruise. We ended up sharing tables of eight most of the time which can be a little hard on the social side as people can be chatty or very quiet depending on their demeanor - or as we found downright rude! However the food was good but a little repetitive and the staff very efficient and friendly. The entertainment was very slow and disappointing - not much going on. The shows in the evening apart from the comedian Mickey Zany and the Britones were not very exciting. The dancers headliners are always good so no change there. Reception service was excellent. Shore excursions overpriced as usual and Norway itself very expensive - please try to do your own if you can as you will find on most ports small travel stops who do most of the trips at half the price.

Port Reviews

Stavanger

no excursion needed - a beautiful town to walk round and plenty to keep you busy.

Flam

A lovely small town (350 people). The flam train is very expensive and really the only thing in the town worth seeing - get down there early to the station which you cannot miss and take the train for half the price of the ships excursion.

Olden

Olden is the home of the Briskdal Glacier and is the one thing people seem to want to go to - however you can not walk to it as it is too far away. There is a small travel bureau that you cannot miss at the side of the port and they provide a bus service to take you to the glacier which will (yet again) cost you half the price of the ships excursion.
