We chose this cruise because the timing suited us, but in future we would always choose to cruise with Scenic, whenever possible. They are a classy, ultra professional outfit. The boat (Scenic Azure) is kept spotlessly clean, the cabins are comfortable and well-appointed, the beds are to dream of (and in!), the food is fantastic and the drinks just keep coming. The service is amazing. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly.

What we liked particularly about this all-inclusive cruise on the Duoro River in Portugal was that the crew were mainly Portuguese; two (I think) were Brazilian. They were just so friendly and helpful without being obsequious. They are very proud of their country and eager to tell you about its history, produce, scenery. From lowest to highest ranks, they always seemed to have time for a chat, to give advice,or to ask after ones welfare. They spoke very good English, too.

Each meal had Portuguese specialities, and Portuguese wines were served with every lunch and dinner, as well as between meals. (Wines from elsewhere were also available.) The quality of the Portuguese wines came as a surprise; we were not aware that Portugal produced so many wines of such high quality. They also served excellent port. Read more
