The travel dates and departure port (Canaveral/Orland) met with the spring break travel time we needed to take our daughter on her graduation vacation. Considering that the Sunshine had recently come out of dry dock and been refurbished we thought this would be a nicer experience. The ship was smaller than we expected and felt very crowded. The spa suite we were in though was wonderful.

We had early assigned dining and it was a mess. The dining room service was sub-par, the staff was unorganized and the food overall was disappointing. Having been on several other Carnival cruises, this was by far the worst experience we have had. The staff didn't put on a show 2 nights during dining that were planned. The nights that they did provide a show, it was unorganized and seemed very well unplanned. Despite being seated every night for dinner by 6:15, several times we were not out of the dining room w/ dessert until well after 8:45. Some meals we were even 1/2 way through the meal before we ever even got anything to drink besides water. During the morning dining breakfast the vast majority of the dining staff was unpleasant and cool. Not what you typically see of the dining room.

Entertainment was crowded and overall not very well planned. We were unable to see ANY of the comedy shows because the venue was so small and there was no seating. Several nights even an hour before the show started it was standing room only. This was disappointing. We learned after that the venue on this boat had been significantly downsized to accommodate other changes on the boat during refurbishing. Other shows though that we attended, were greatly empty.

Cabin Review

Spa Suite

Cabin SS

The spa suite was wonderful. Very spacious and inviting. The double sliding balcony doors were great compared to the regular balcony door we were used to. We loved the soothing colors and the spa small/feel overall. Our cabin stewardess was wonderful and always very pleasant.

Port Reviews

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

We stayed at the Radisson Hotel and did a park and travel voucher. Bfast was supposed to be included, but was not and was VERY expensive. Port Canaveral itself is easy to travel in/out of and embarkation/debarkation is very smooth. We've been in/out of this port a few times.

St. Maarten

We paid $12PP round trip to take a Ferry from the dock to the other side. We generally walk a lot and did not realize until we got on the Ferry that we could have walked where they dropped us off, which ended up to only be about a 3 mile walk.

San Juan

We scheduled to take this excursion through the boat. Upon leaving we were informed that they would not let one of our group (18 yr old daughter) do the ATV ride b/c she had a provisional drivers' license and not a full license. Myself and said daughter ended up doing the horseback ride at the same place and we did not have any interaction with the other 8 people in our group. The excursion itself and the staff were nice, but the property seemed a bit unkept and junky. The driver to/from the port hardly said a word. This trip was 45 mins each way. Having drivers during excursion travel that tell you the history of their area/community is always a plus. Having one who says nothing is a bit disappointing.
