This was our first ocean cruise. We have been on several river cruises with Viking and enjoyed them. We chose Viking due to their past performance on the rivers and the size of the ship. 930 passengers was about all that we could handle. The itinerary for this cruise was exciting since we had never been to most of the destinations.
We chose the Tuscany option prior to sailing. The Villa was very beautiful but was too remote. Viking changed sources since we booked. The original Villa was closer to a village according to our research. The food was adequate and the wine was only Chianti. The tours were very good and our guide was excellent. There was enough free time (shopping).
The ship is brand new and extremely well designed. We never felt crowded and everything was easily accessible. There was plenty of space to relax, numerous eating facilities and bars. The food was fantastic. We dined at Manfredies three times. The Restaurant was great for dinner, but not so much for breakfast. We usually had room service or the World Cafe for breakfast. The formal restaurants were dressy casual, but the World Cafe was not. We used this when arriving late from an excursion and didn't feel like changing.
The cabin was well laid out. We asked for more hangers and they were supplied. Plenty of room under the bed for luggage. Large bathroom and shower with heated floor. Coffee maker in room. Fridge stocked with soda and snacks daily. Housekeeping excellent. Viking also has laundry facilities on several floor free of charge.
The Panoramic City Tour was a waste of time. The high light was a 20 minute bathroom stop.
