If you love children but not hundreds running around a drenched pool deck or at a food buffet screaming uncontrollably, then monitor U.S. school vacations to avoid ANY cruise when our nation's little angels are not securely in their classrooms. But if you by mistake a book a cruise on a school vacation week my #1 recommendation is AVOID THE BUFFET; eat every meal in any of their excellent elegant quiet and civilized sit-down restaurants where there are fewer children and those there are closely monitored by embarrassed parents & therefore, well behaved. Food just tastes better eaten in tablecloths, served and in a peaceful environment. It is unappetizing watching even adults pile food on their plates at the buffet and start picking at their meal while at the buffet. Cruisers should be required to complete an online buffet manners course; #1 rule is never to eat at the buffet line especially with your hands or to overfill your plate. Otherwise, you are an uneducated savage and deserve to be thrown overboard.

Recommendation #2 for avoiding children is to buy a week's pass for the Spa where children are NOT allowed. It is quiet and never busy. It is worth the additional $199, especially on sea days or in the event a port call is cancelled and you must remain on the ship.

I have gone on 8 or 9 NCL cruises and the GETAWAY WESTERN CARIBBEAN was packed. However, NCL staff are professionals; everything runs exceptionally well. Do not miss the shows. Each one is different, well done, and entertaining.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

I was a balcony on the 8th floor, front right. It was very quiet and I would recommend these rooms highly. The only times it is noisy are when there are shows or rehearsals in the theater because the theater is right there across the hall. Other than those times, it is extremely quiet. It is also a great balcony for those with fears of height because although it is a balcony, it is one floor above the shuffleboard court meaning you enjoy the sea view and the balcony but not the horrifying height of looking straight down to the sea. These the the two PROs for Floor 8 balconies.

Port Reviews

Roatan

The $19 Day Pass to Infinity Bay Resort on West Bay Beach, Roatan, Honduras

is a good value if you appreciate a clean, well guarded, well attended, less crowded section of an otherwise overcrowded West Bay Beach where motorized launches come dangerously close to children, swimmers and snorklers. Yes, this is Roatan's best swimming beach and one with excellent snorkeling as well. At Infinity Bay beach there are no motorized boats, the beach is significantly less crowded, and there is excellent snorkeling as well. Don't go anywhere else. But if you do, I recommend going left towards the end of West Bay Beach; never right. I also found the sandy bottom at this section of the beach to be so soft that I did not use my water shoes. Do bring your snorkeling gear, though. I also brought my own floaty because the beach is exceptionally calm without waves or noticeable currents. I grew up and live in Miami and have visited many of the best beaches in the Caribbean and Florida and this beach is excellent, and suitable for all ages and novice swimmers.

The Day Pass grants you use of the massive, warm, shallow, and clean Infinity pool, and comfortable lounges located at the beach and by the pool. Some of the lounges are in shaded areas and some are in full sun. The fee includes a hotel beach towel (so that you do not have to bring one from the ship) and a Rum Punch (which I did not try as I do not drink alcohol). There are Resort paper cups and complimentary iced water available for guests at the towel stations. Although I brought my own water bottle just to be safe.

There is food available for purchase at the beach/pool bar & grill. I did not order anything

but looked around and guests appeared to be enjoying

their meals. I also brought a few snacks with me to hold me over until I returned to the ship for an early dinner.

WEST BAY BEACH is crowded on the days cruise ships

visit Roatan. On the day I was there, there were two ships at

Port and the beach was extremely full. I understand there are days

with up to 4 or 5 ships at port. On those days, West Bay Beach

must be unbearable. On those days, I strongly urge you reserve a Day

Pass with Kris Pino for Infinity Bay Resort. Trust me.

In addition to reserving a Day Pass through Kris Pino at the

Infinity Beach Resort, I also reserved transportation through Mr. Pino for an additional $30. The transportation should be reserved to ensure you avoid The craziness of the Port when your ship arrives. The R/T cost may be a little higher than normal but the transportation shld be for party only and non-stop to the hotel from the port. There was an error with my arrival transportation and I Was unfortunately packed into a hot minivan with more people

Than I could count, a wheel chair, and one obese man who shared half of my seat!

Very unpleasant.

On my way back, I was driven back by The company owner after Mr. Pino from the hotel kjndly complained on mybehalf to the transportation company. Just make sure if you book BOTH the Day Pass and R/T Transportation through Mr. Pino. My overcrowded minivan stopped to leave off the other passengers And sell them a day pass to some other resort. Mr. Pino was kind to call Enrique Ramirez at the transportation company to complain on my behalf of the service which is why fir my return I was driven back to the port by Mr. Ramirez in his personal car. I trust he will be more cautious in the future when transporting a hotel guest.

Contact Mr. Pino at Infinity Bay Resort at info AT InfinityBay DOT com. He was exceptional.

Responding to my emails and reserving my Day Pass and arranging my

Transportation. You can pay with a credit card for the transportation and the day pass desperately when you arrive. At the hotel you will be given a green bracelet identifying you as a legitimate Day Pass guest. Before you depart be sure to return your beach towel and obtain a small card confirming you returned the borrowed hotel towel. I returned that coupon to reception because the desk that handles Day Pass holders had already closed. I also sent Mr. Pino an email informing him I had returned the towel and left the ticket at Reception.

Infinity Bay Resort is beautiful as you can see from the photos added to this review. Let me know if this review was helpful in making your decision of what to do when in Roatan.

Costa Maya

The non-alcoholic Day Pass to the chaise lounges, facilities, and beach section at YaYa Beach Club on Costa Maya is a good value if you like cold bottled sparkling water at the beach and appreciate a clean, well guarded and less crowded section of an otherwise very busy beach where motorized launches come dangerously close to swimmers and snorklers. Yes, this is the only stretch of swimming beach near the Costa Maya cruise port and one popular with snorklers and scuba divers as well. At YaYa Beach you can also arrange for diving expedition. I found that section of the beach to be less crowded than the portion closer to the village of Mahalial. I also found the sandy bottom at their beach to be so soft that I did not use my water shoes. Do bring your snorkeling gear, though. I also brought my own floaty because the ocean is calm without waves or noticeable currents. I grew up and live in Miami and have visited many of the best beaches in the Caribbean and Florida. This beach is fine, not excellent, but in Costa Maya it is the best they have. The beach in this section is suitable for all ages and for novice swimmers as it is very shallow. Don't get me wrong, I had an awesomely relaxed and safe day and that was because I was at YaYa Beach Club.

There is food available for purchase at the beach bar & grill. I did not order anything

but looked around and guests appeared to be enjoying their meals. I also brought a few snacks with me to hold me over until I returned to the ship for an early dinner. My package included unlimited non-alcoholic drinks and I liked I could order canned soft drinks and bottled sparkling water. I never asked for ice just to be safe; it's Mexico!

To reserve your Day Pass write to the owner Gabriel at YaYa Beach Club. He answers emails promptly and will make your reservation and send you a papypal invoice to prepay your passes.

Transportation to YaYa Beach is surprisingly easy and inexpensive. It costs $2 per person each way in a shared taxi which you get as you exit the port area to your right. I gave the driver $3 and he was pleased. The drive is approximately 5-10 minutes from the port.

Ya Ya Beach Club is very pleasant, albeit, not luxurious. It is clean, organized, safe and well attended although my waiter Franco never brought me the sparkling water bottles I would order; I would instead walk up to the bar to see Monica and grab one. Franco either needs to write things down or find another job as a good waiter, he is not. YaYa Beach Club is a great place to spend a safe day at the beach while your ship is docked at Costa Maya, enjoy the warm sea, soft sand, a quaint coastal village, cool breeze, soft music and cold sparkling water. As you can see from The photos I have included w this review it is nice. Let me know if this review was helpful in making your decision of what to do when in Costa Maya.
