I was off for a week for Spring Break and wanted to get away. As a teacher I also wanted to avoid kids as much as possible. Surprisingly, I was able to accomplish this easily onboard the Breakaway. There are plenty of adult only areas where kids don't congregate as well as quiet areas of the ship that children stay away from. Unless you have or work with kids than you don't understand fully that children of all ages are "allergic" to quiet. :)

My overall impression — beyond the attentive staff, great food in specialty restaurants and main dining rooms, quality and amount of entertainment, overall cleanliness and ship maintenance — is that if a person wanted to spend time in NYC to enjoy food, atmosphere, entertainment, and night life then that person would get more for his or her buck by spending a week on the Breakaway.

I traveled as a solo cruiser in one of the solo cabins. I did have a friend from my school also on board with her family but only saw her once and that was through planning. The ship is so large that we surprisingly did not run into each other during the cruise.

Cabin Review

Studio Stateroom

Cabin T1

Let me preface this review with a little background. This was only my 3rd cruise. The first was on NCL Jewel upon which I sailed solo in a mini-suite because I was afraid a balcony cabin looked to small compared to a hotel room. My second cruise was on the NCL Sky in a mid-ship balcony cabin which I really loved. This cruise, due to price, I stayed in a Studio Stateroom. I went into the cruise with the thought that the room would be an experiment because I was fearful that I would hate it because of being too small and not having access to the outside via a balcony.

I was very pleasantly surprised! The room is small, don't get me wrong, but due to it's design I didn't perceive it as being small. In fact I really liked the room. The toilet area was no more cramped than any cruise ship toilet closet. The shower was fine for turning around and bending to wash legs etc. The bed was and actual full size mattress instead of two twins pushed together. Finally, as everyone has reported, the amount of storage was excellent. There was even a large basket under the bed to use as a hamper for worn clothing.

In future cruises would I still stay in a balcony or larger stateroom if money allows? – Of course I would. However, I would easily book a Studio Stateroom again on any NCL ship going forward if the deal was too good to pass up.

One final note: The Studio Lounge is a great place for good coffee and danish in the morning. There were also daily meet-ups for solo travelers with an attentive staff to provide information, help with hard to get reservations, and provide activities.
