I enjoyed my first TA cruise a great deal. The service was exceptional, there were plenty of activities to keep you busy on the days at sea - and the price was fabulous. We booked 10 days before sailing. While the pizza on the lido was horrendous, the dining room cuisine was terrific, as was the lido's bread pudding.
Anthony Cooke was a particularly good speaker and I went to as many of his lectures as I could. The Indonesian Crew Show should not be missed!
The decor of the Westerdam is sadly incohesive (I had loved the Nieuw Amsterdam) but perhaps that will be fixed in dry dock? It's hard to say much about a ship that was going to have an overhaul at the end of my trip. While the Westerdam had some wear and tear it may very well be all fixed when it resumes sailing. The decor while I was on it didn't know if it wanted to be deco, quirky, tropical, Las Vegas or "pictures of old New Amsterdam". However, it was clean.
Good size cabin and it was nice to have a view. The lighting isn't great - particularly by the vanity. The reading lights could not really be used in with the room in the twin bed configuration (they end up behind your pillows) but should work fine in queen bed configuration. Having a sofa and tub was nice - I had previously only traveled in an interior cabin. I wish there were more drawers rather than shelves.
