We chose this cruise on the Independence to coincide with our kids Spring Break ages 7 and 5. We liked the itinerary and have been on the sister ship Liberty of the Seas, two times before. We like the layout of the boat, the large children's play area and the promenade. Also, always a plus with RCL is the connecting rooms. We have found this is great for our family to get two rooms with an interconnecting door that we open. We are close to the kids but we have two rooms with two bathrooms.

We flew down the night before. Got an Uber from our hotel at 11:15 Am, arrived at the terminal by 11:30, checked in and walked right on the boat. We were on the boat by 11:45 AM. It was great ! We are only gold members so it wasn't like we had special treatment. The boat was completely full but everything was well organized. I know there were storms the night before and that may have delayed some people's flights possibly affecting lines at the terminal.

We had interconnecting ocean view rooms on deck 2. I normally don't like being down this low but we wanted interconnecting rooms and a window this time for the kids. Everything was fine with the rooms. I never smelled sewage on the lower level at all. Someone complained about this in an earlier review this year. We did not experience. Occasionally we heard a gurgle from the shower drain but no smell.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

Great interconnecting ocean view state room. Got two cabins for family of four and open door. Can't beat the two bathrooms and extra storage. Wished we were higher up but made due with elevators and got lots of exercise with he stairs. Need that with all the eating and drinking anyway !

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Love departing from Ft Lauderdale. Dock is very close to the airport. We have never taken an excursion but occasionally stay overnight at a beachfront hotel near the port.

Costa Maya

Went to the Mayan Ruin waterpark. Just walked ourselves and bought tickets the day of. Kids loved the waterslides. A little young for zip lines but when they are older, I'm sure we will be back.

Cozumel

Love Cozumel. Never a bad time there. We always just take a cab to Paradise beach. Great pool, food and service.
