I chose this US waterways cruise because 1) I had never done a river cruise before, 2) it is fully in the USA so no worries about difficulty returning to my homeland, and 3) a steamboat is intriguing.

The American Empress is an intimate boat with a capacity of approximately 220 passengers. It offers beautifully appointed cabins with private verandas. Housekeeping is personalized and the same attendant serves you all week. Embarkation is as easy as can be with luggage awaiting your arrival in the cabin. Once aboard, a presentation is offered to acquaint the travelers to the location of key venues and to meet the staff serving you during the cruise. The ship is easy to navigate, elevators and stairways easily visible, clean environment, and comfortable areas to meet or have conversations. Dining is spectacular with a more upscale dining room as well as a casual lounge. Both serve a variety of menu items and the food is very well prepared. Delicious!

The staff obviously enjoy their jobs and interact with all passengers in a friendly, playful yet professional manner. Absolutely delightful.

Cabin Review

Cabin Queen bed stateroom

Comfortable with plenty of storage. Attended daily. Lovely appointments. Shower is small and certainly manageable.
