Cuba is exotic, unique, and a country waiting for it's future. It's people seemed to have a good attitude and if their Chamber Music group is any indication, fabulous talent! Luckily, my favorite small cruise ship was going there. I like Pearl Mist because it is compact, comfortable, and has a dedicated crew who quickly get to know you. It is relaxing not to have to dress up for dinner; plus, open seating allows one to meet many different people from various locations. I have never failed to find my table companions interesting and pleasant.

While many of the amenities provided by the giant cruise ships are missing, for me, the friendly companionship of fellow passengers supported by a highly capable crew makes up for the lack of spas and shops aboard ship. I definitely didn't miss sailing with thousands of other people on board!

Cuba is new to the itinerary and so bumps are to be expected when dealing with a recent destination that has a delicate political climate. However, the Tour Director, Kristen, and her staff reacted quickly and competently to a couple of changes that were unexpected. I felt well taken care of, and after all, an adventure is composed of surprises. It is how they are confronted that is important. Staff did a great job handling everything.

Cabin Review

Cabin double

Spotless. Quiet. Comfortable. Shower was great. Cabin was spacious. More storage than I required. Well looked after. Only complaint regards the WiFi available in the cabin: It was frustrating when other passengers were obviously using it. If I got on when majority were ashore, it worked fine, although still not top notch. They need a more powerful system! However, having a balcony was a plus and all rooms have a balcony. Daily events sheet was helpful and I appreciated the synopsis from the New York Times each day which covered important items from that paper.

Port Reviews

Havana

Havana is still struggling. However, the amazing architecture is there; the cars from the 40's and 50's, and, the lovely people, make it an interesting visit.

Cienfuegos

This city provided one of the highlights: Orquesta de Camara Concerto Sur-- A Chamber Music group of 8 musicians who were absolutely fabulous. Others on tour felt the same way. Hopefully, their future includes tours to other countries because the passion and skill in their music is amazing. Lots of other cultural treats made the visit interesting. Architecture; works of art for sale from street vendors; historical locations; former mansions built by pre- revolution casino owners or oligarchs. Cuba has an interesting history!

Santiago de Cuba

Probably the most prosperous city of the three we visited. More buildings restored, or at least painted on the outside, to show off the architecture. Thomas Terry Theater from 1800's, buildings around city center.
