Our flight left Toronto a little after 08:00, and we arrived in Miami Airport around 10:30.
TRANSFERS
The airport—ship—airport transfers (booked through Celebrity) were without doubt the worst we have ever experienced. It might be possible to argue that Celebrity is not directly responsible for the failures, but the company contracts the transportation suppliers, so they must accept their share of the blame. These disappointing scenarios are the reasons why we awarded this trip only 4 stars.
We booked an inside cabin on deck 9. Cabin 9332 was spacious and conveniently arranged. One nice touch; the light in the bathroom had a night-light feature, which helped you navigate the cabin safely without disturbing your partner after lights-out. There was plenty of storage space for hanging clothes and extra space above the bed. There was a well-designed cabinet that included a fridge, a writing desk, and a small safe. Cabin steward Arthur was excellent—very amenable and considerate. Tip: individual chocolates have returned with the nightly turn-down. Celebrity listened to passenger complaints after stopping this on the Reflection. Well done.
We noticed an occasional musty odour in the bathroom, but it was never sufficiently persistent to warrant a complaint.
We wandered along the shore path into the city and were intrigued by the floating bridge.
We spent a week on this island a decade ago, so we didn’t see the need to book any excursions. Orangestad seems to have grown exponentially since we were last there. TIP: drivers in Aruba are very polite, and will wait patiently for you to cross the street, even if you are not at a pedestrian crossing.
We wandered around the port shopping area and enjoyed a beer in a local cafe.
Wandering briefly on shore. There were 2 Celebrity ships in port, one HAL and the Allure of the Seas. This meant that there were just too many people ashore to make the visit a pleasant one.
