Sail Date: Mar 2017

We chose this ship because of the date, price and itinerary. I read reviews on this site beforehand and have to say that we were slightly nervous, especially after one cruiser said "Good Luck" when he heard we had a scheduled cruise. We were so happy with everything on this ship, from the staff, to the food, to the rooms and entertainment. This was not our first cruise. We have sailed 5 times before, always on bigger ships. This ship was smaller, but it was a wonderful just the same. We were looking to relax, unwind, spend some time in the sun. We did all of that, while meeting some of the nicest people and cruise staff on any ship that we've been on. Yes, the cabins were small, but plenty big enough for the two of us. We had an ocean view room with a good size window. There was plenty of storage space for all of our stuff. Lots of hangers and shelves to put everything. It was better than a hotel room in that regard. It was always kept spotlessly clean and our room steward (Harold) kept asking if there was anything he could do for us. Yes, it's an older ship, but it was clean and maintained very nicely. The food ranked up there with any of the other ships that we have sailed on. We ate in the Starlight Dining room every night for dinner and the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch on sea days. The entertainment was first rate. We saw a comedian, juggler and ventriloquist and they were all awesome. The piano player and singer at the Schooner Bar was one of our favorites. We felt that the Empress had a more intimate atmosphere than the bigger ships that we were used to.

Cabin Review

Cabin Ocean View Stateroom

Our cabin was small, but big enough for the two of us. We had plenty of room to put all of our stuff. We could store our suitcases under the bed and put all of our beauty aids in the bathroom on shelves. There was actually more room than most hotel rooms that we've stayed at. I always bring extra hangers because hotel rooms never have enough, but I didn't even need to use them because there were more than enough. There are plenty of outlets to charge your phones too. Our cabin steward (Harold) was great too. He was always available when he said he would be and we never wanted for anything. It was fun to come back to our "Towel creature" every night too.
