We picked this cruise because we thought the ropes course and water slides would appeal to our tween and because the Brat Pack/80's programming appealed to us as 40-something parents. This was our 13th cruise and third on NCL--but the first time on such a big ship. I have to say that, while we had a good time overall, I won't rush back to the Escape unless it's a great deal and/or the timing works out with a group or something (so we didn't hate it, but it wasn't our favorite). Why? TOO MANY PEOPLE and not enough programming of interest....

Embarkation was pretty straightforward. We checked in and got our boarding number...it was a sea of people in the terminal and lots of waiting in lines, but we boarded relatively quickly and were able to find elevators quickly to the buffet. Seats in the buffet were a bit hard to find, but not impossible...we just waited til we saw someone leaving.

The Good:

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

Our cabin was one of the best parts of the trip. This stateroom was right near to elevator making it very convenient and it had an angled balcony giving us a bit of extra space which was nice. We bid to upgrade to this room, so I don't know if that was typically an extra charge to have the angled balcony. However, it was spacious overall and the bathroom was very functional. We used the pull-down bunk for my daughter thus leaving the couch available for sitting in the evenings. Also, there were two drawers under the coach that were very roomy and great for all of our shoes (which I usually end up tripping over otherwise).

Port Reviews

Miami

Miami was fine as an embarkation point. We usually just hang out at a hotel prior to embarkation as it is a bit of hassle to do too much without renting a car.

St. Thomas

We went to Magen's Bay on our own. This was very easy as they were filling Safari Cabs right at port and took us there for 8 bucks a person. We were able to rent chairs for 5-8 bucks and floats for 10....it was relatively inexpensive for a nice day at the beach.

Tortola

Didn't find much to do here, but found a little market to buy trinkets.

Nassau

Did the sea lions on our own and my daughter loved it.
