This cruise was planned well ahead of time, it was meant to be a happy family reunion and a 20th wedding anniversary celebration for my husband and me. I was leery of the ship, it's old and I wanted to experience a cruise on one of Royal Caribbean's fantastic new ships. But I was overruled by family members who were more concerned with the itinerary than the ship. I compromised and I'm sorry for it.

I originally booked a balcony cabin on deck 8, but after my husband was injured at work and recovering from neck surgery I balked at paying the full fare at the deadline. The future was too uncertain, we didn't know if he'd be able to cruise with us. After a few weeks the odds were good that he'd be okay to join us and I rebooked the cruise online. Our original cabin was no longer available, in fact the only option we had was an inside cabin. Not ideal but at least we'd be on the ship. We'd had inside cabins a few times in the past and they weren't so bad.

Fast forward to March 12th and my worst fears were confirmed. Not only is this ship old, but the cabin was a nightmare. Broken down furniture, stained bathroom fixtures, and a painful mattress that stuck me with springs no matter what position I tried to sleep. I don't know if any other cabins were this bad, maybe if we'd had our original cabin on deck 8 it would have been much better. If that were the case, Royal Caribbean needs to stop selling "inside" cabins and start calling them what they really are: Steerage Class. But the cabin was the ONLY place on the ship where we received good service. Our cabin steward was excellent, and obviously very experienced at trying to make the best of bad conditions.
