We chose this cruise for our family primarily for the great itinerary. I love a Caribbean cruise that departs from SJU because you start out so close to the other islands that you end up not having too many at sea days...We flew into San Juan and spent the night before our cruise. We stayed at a nearby Marriott which was a short cab ride to the Pan American Pier. Embarkation was a breeze- no line to wait in- we got right on the ship at 12:30.
I have cruised at least ten times and two times on Royal Caribbean. Three years ago, we cruised on Adventure of the Seas, which is a bigger ship with a similar itinerary. I prefer Jewel as it is a bit smaller.
The staff aboard Jewel worked very hard and they were friendly and helpful throughout the cruise.
Cabin was fine- please note that this cabin has a smaller balcony than other balcony cabins. It was fine, but had a slightly obstructed view. Showers are small, and bathroom overall was tiny. If you think this would be an issue, then book a Junior Suite.
Great place to begin a cruise...embarkation was a breeze.
Lots to do on St. Thomas, but we took a ferry to St. John and rented a jeep for the day. Went to Maho bay and snorkeled. If you do go to St. john, start early in the day.
We took a cab to Carambola beach club. He gave us a tour of the island. Carambola is clean with umbrella, chair and snorkel gear for rent. Good restaurant with beachside service.
We took a water taxi to Marigot bay. Hated it. Not much of a beach and once we were there, felt stuck. I thought I had done good research- but this is where the people in the port told us to go. I have been to St. Lucia three times and not ever really enjoyed it compared to other islands...what am I missing?
Took a cab to Harbour lights beach and restaurant. It's pretty close to the dock, has a great little restaurant with chair and umbrella rental. Beautiful sand.
