RC Voyager of the Seas review

We were on the Voyager from March 5th 2017 ‘til March 15th from Sydney to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. This is the 17th cruise we’ve been on so I guess we can compare. First, I must say that my husband and I have always been pleased with RC. In fact, we love it. We were looking forward to eating our favorites on the ship, especially the wonderful RC deserts. For some reason, I think we ended up on a cruise for diabetic people. That or someone forgot to load the sugar in Sydney because every dessert tasted the same… blah! Almost every night, after supper, my husband and I would go up to the windjammer to see if I could get a dessert that would taste somewhat sweet. Nope! However, Breakfast and lunch choices were very varied and very tasty. Neither I nor my husband had a Wow moment for supper choices.

This was a 10 day-cruise so we imagined the crowd would be a bit older, more sophisticated. We were outnumbered 2/1 with the screaming and running children. We even saw a kid belly sliding down the stairs. I cannot count the number of nights I had to get up from bed to tell the kids in the hall to stop screaming and running… past 10pm!

Port Reviews

Noumea

First, Noumea New Caledonia. We went out on our own and got a HOHO with a water taxi for Duck Island. (20$ per person + 10$ water taxi. They take AUD and USD). We had a nice day, nice snorkeling. If you want to rent an umbrella, be ready to caugh up 20$/chair… The rest of the city is really ordinary. Nothing special to see. And if you are expecting amazing clear blue water, you’re NOT going to get it in this port… We flew half way accross the world to see amazing views, clear blue water and well… it’s not in Noumea that we were amazed.

Mystery Island

Mystery Island, Vanuatu. We could have just went by without anyone noticing since it is so tiny. The tender process was perfectly executed. However, they were maybe training a new driver and we litterally backed up in the dock. This could have turned out really badly. Luckily, no one was hurt. This island is tiny, the water is very pretty on a beautiful sunny day. The snorkling is just ok. If you want to see more, you must book a tour with the boat. You can buy local stuff and have your hair braded. SInce there were probably 2000 kids onbiard, it was a 10-day brade festival onboard

Port Vila

Port Villa Vanuatu. The only way to get out of the port area is to take a water taxi. 5$/person. They are VERY AGGRESSIVE/PUSHY when you come off the ship. I’ve even heard of 2 guys fighting over a client. We finally decided to trust a Guy that said would take us to the Blue Lagoon ( quite far from the ship.. a good 35 minutes, and not offered with the ship). It is THE thing worth doing on the island IMO. It is 6$/person to enter and you can swim in amazing blue water. Lovely. Our taxi driver, who finally went south on the initial deal we had made…( if the driver tries to change the agreement, keep your goal in mind and do not accept any changes), brought us to the falls. Not the original falls we wanted to go to since they are apparently dry on account of the 2015 storm?? (not sure if it’s really true…). 13$/person to go in and see a tiny water fall. Don’t fall for this! Money wasted! It is pretty but not to pay for.
