When I first booked the Carnival Vista as my spring break adventure I was super excited to experience a fairly new ship. I had high expectations and after cruising with Carnival Cruise Lines in the past I thought this would be my favorite cruise. Last week was my vacation and overall it was a great vacation but the boat and service wasn't as nice as I had envisioned.

Food is one of the main things I look forward to when going on a vacation. The breakfast in the lido was awful. The choices were limited and nothing looked very appealing. You also had the option to dine in the Horizons Restaurant which was better for breakfast but the set back is having to wait for the meal to be served to you which could take up to an hour. Lunch in the lido, I would not recommend. A good lunch would be the cheeseburgers, burritos, pizza (found on the lido deck) or the BBQ which was served on the fourth floor. Dinner in the Horizons Restaurant is where I ate every night and I was satisfied with the food. You got to order off a different menu each night and there was a variety of options to chose from. However, be sure to plan for a two hour dinner because the boat holds about 4,000 people and there are not nearly enough staff members to serve that amount of people in a comfortable time frame. Also, the lines for food were obnoxiously long. I waited at least 20-30 minutes everyday in the cheeseburger or pizza line which became very frustrating.

Entertainment is another key factor to an awesome vacation and I would have to say on the past Carnival ships I have cruised on, their entertainment was better. They had activities throughout the day but the director of these activities was sometimes annoying and would take away from the "relaxing vacation vibes." The features to the boat as in the water slides, skyride, fitness center, and rope course were exciting to look at but after seeing a line of 100 people, I was turned away from the activity. The skyride itself was very time consuming and it would continuously get shut down due to windy weather or moisture in the track. I waited two hours to ride it and right as I got to the front of the line, the staff shut it down because people were getting stuck on the track. I did get on a waiting list to ride it in the next couple of days but I know many of my family members never got the chance to ride it. Onto the water slides, they also had long lines and after riding down them I realized they weren't really worth the wait, plus the water flow didn't have much pressure. Many people were known to get stuck on the yellow slide. Lastly, the fitness center was very nice. Being able to run on the treadmills with an ocean view was relaxing. They had machines, weights and yoga mats as well. However, the classes offered in the fitness center were not worth it. I took a yoga class which was $13.80 and it was in the middle of a cafe where people were constantly walking by and staring at you, making noise. It was not relaxing whatsoever and the instruction wasn't good. It was basically a class to stretch out your body.

Port Reviews

Miami

Miami was a good port. Sunny and welcoming to new cruisers.

Grand Turk

Although my family and I didn't take an excursion, I loved this port! We spent the day at MargaritaVille and did all the fun activities in the pool and laid out on the beach. Very fun and enjoyable. We actually wished we had more time because we were only on the island from 8am to 1pm.
