After experiencing the superior hospitality offered on the Viking Skadi during a Holiday cruise on the Danube River, we were interested in seeing if the ocean version would hold true to Viking's standards. We were not disappointed... The smaller guest roster coupled with the destination focused itinerary made this voyage memorable in many ways. The Viking culture transferred nicely to the larger vessel. The Staterooms were spacious and comfortable, the ship was well decorated and offered a great deal of personal space to sit back and enjoy the ride, and the dining was superb. As with our River Cruise, the crew provided excellent service throughout the cruise from the housekeeping staff who were friendly and courteous to the dining staff who presented outstanding meals from the World Cafe to the alternate dining room of Manfredi's. The wine and beer served for both lunch and dinner were delicious and complimented the meals well.

The shore excursions, especially those included with the cruise, were educational and a feast for the eyes as we toured around each island taking in their charm and uniqueness. The only excursion that wasn't up to the standards of the others was the included tour on Guadeloupe, "Panoramic Tour of the Butterfly Island". Although the stops were interesting, there was a lack of information associated with them. For example, we stopped at the eastern most point of the island; Pointe des Chateaux, to view crashing waves against the rocky shoreline. There is a large cross erected on the top of the hill. But unfortunately no description or narrative was given to its significance. But this was the only excursion that was lacking. We ventured out on other trips that were great, such as, the Mount Gay Rum Tour. I highly recommend this tour...

Viking has risen to the top of my list for cruises whether it is river or ocean. Their decision to concentrate on the cultural aspects of the ports-of-call has separated them from the rest. Now some might disagree and that is fine. Personally, I like taking a cruise that offers world-class accommodations, dining, service, and excursions to educate me about the world.

Cabin Review

Cabin Penthouse Veranda

Our stateroom was roomy and comfortable. The housekeeping staff maintained the room every day so that each time we walked in, it felt like the first time. The veranda provided great views and an opportunity to chat with our neighbors.
