We had thoroughly enjoyed out first Viking ocean cruise in the Baltic in 2015 so when we lucked into an amazing sale on this cruise, we grabbed it. Viking ocean cruises have everything you could want -- a small ship (fewer than 1000 passengers), the excellent food and service that is the hallmark of Viking, and a wealth of excursions on offer (both included and optional).

We took advantage of the sale price and were able to book 3 cabins for a mini-family reunion on board -- an Explorer Suite for us and deluxe veranda cabins nearby for the other 2 couples. Imagine our surprise when all 3 couples were upgraded by Viking just before Christmas -- my sisters to penthouse veranda suites and us to the Owner's Suite! Our accommodations were breathtaking -- a living room, a private dining room, a private wine collection, a board room/meeting room, and even a private sauna off the bathroom. The service levels were also ramped up -- fresh fruit daily, snacks and the mini-bar replenished daily, express laundry and drycleaning included, etc. We have never been so pampered!

Our restaurant experiences were up to the very high Viking standards we have come to expect -- regional specialties as well as vegetarian and classic dining choices. We even enjoyed a dinner together in our suite, catered by the room service staff.

Port Reviews

Toulon

Again, we chose the included tour of Toulon. A knowledgeable guide and lovely weather made this tour wonderful

Corsica (Ajaccio)

A combination bus and walking tour. Most enjoyable.

Florence (Livorno)

Bus tour through Tuscany to Pisa; then a walking tour of Pisa. We were treated to a wonderful mini-concert in the Baptistry performed by another tour guide. Magnificent!

Rome (Civitavecchia)

As noted above, weather conditions delayed our arrival in Rome and truncated the available tours. The panoramic tour was delightful, nonetheless. We enjoyed sunshine and a beautiful afternoon seeing most of historic Rome. The highlight at the end was our visit to St Peter's Square.
