This is our 4th cruise. We've been on Holland America for their Mediterranean cruise (Ancient Civilizations) and their Baltics cruise. We also took Paul Gauguin cruise in French Polynesian. This was our first trip on Regent and our first cruise without our two children. My husband and I absolutely loved the Explorer. It is a beautiful and luxurious ship. There are about 700 guests. It's a quiet ship, no rowdy music or games at the pool. Wonderful and huge fitness center at the back of the ship with windows all across the three rooms. It sits above the Canyon Ranch Spa and the infinity pool. Very lovely spot in the evenings. The infinity pool was always warm and not salt water like the main pool.

We had a concierge level suite (#1024), which was quite nice. They tried to get us to upgrade to the Penthouse suite but it was $3,200 more and only a little big larger. The Penthouse suites comes with a butler but we two suites and two butlers on the Gauguin and never really used them.

Our Regent suite was smaller than our Deluxe Veranda suites on Holland America but much larger than our rooms on the Gauguin. The bathroom is huge and lovely - double sinks, marble and tile everywhere, stand up shower with lovely rain head shower and separate bath/shower. The bath is the entire width of the room and right next to that is a walk in closet - also the width of the entire room! There were more drawers and shelves in the room then we needed for our 10-day cruise and we had a lot of clothes and shoes. The suite deck is huge - lounge chair and two sitting chairs and a big round table. Definitely as big as the one on Holland America.

Port Reviews

Key West

We were suppose to go snorkeling on a catamaran but the weather was too rough so the excursion was cancelled. We ended up walking around town and stopping in at one of the sidewalk bars. Great people watching.

Miami

Fortunately there was an outdoor festival going on right outside our hotel. That was fun.
