My wife & I chose this cruise to Central America because we wanted to travel down the Mississippi River and see where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Since my sister lives just north of Lake Ponchatrain, she decided to join us on this cruise. She enjoyed this her first cruise and would like to cruise again.
Getting to the cruise ship terminal was not easy, one of the most difficult and time consuming because of the traffic leading to the terminal. However, once we were able to get into the terminal the embarkation went well. The only line to speak of was to go through the security screening.
The ship was nice and clean, not much wear on it since it was reconditioned last year. The only thing we did not like was all of the smoke in various parts of the ship. Even though there was an enclosed room for cigar smoking, it was very noticeable in the bar and restaurant near it. Smoke would also come into our room from the pool area when the wind was blowing a certain direction.
We were upgraded from an aft cabin to a family suite with a balcony, very nice and roomy for the three of us. The butler was overly accommodating providing afternoon snacks, which were very much appreciated when we got back on board after a long day on shore. The coffee maker in the room was very nice. Typically on other cruises I would get up early and go get a specialty coffee for my wife, not this year the coffee in the room made that trip unnecessary. The balcony was windy when at sea, but we expected that. We usually go in the aft cabins because there is little to no wind during days at sea, but with another person we took advantage of the larger cabin.
Went to Nim Li Punit Mayan Ruins, they were okay, not as interesting as the others. We had a couple of hours after the shore excursion to visit Harvest Caye island. Very well done. I head comments from others that it is like a Disney Park. It was well developed with many things to do, so I guess it fits that description. It was very peaceful, many beach chair and umbrellas. The Belizean people on the island were extremely friendly.
traffic to get to the port was terrible, embarkation was a breeze.
