We booked this cruise for winter sun and chose it as it was 20 nights duration albeit consisting of two 10 day cruises. We had been on similar itineraries over Christmas in 2014 and 2015 on Royal and knew what to expect. We had an extremely poor 28 night Christmas 2016 and New Year cruise on P and O Azura and hoped for a better experience on Royal.
On the whole our expectations were met. Good choice of entertainment from comedians, magic shows and a Beatles tribute (the latter two we had seen before but still enjoyed them again) as well as latest release films shown on the Movies under the Stars screen or available the following day on cabin TV. There was also a large choice of free films available on cabin TV.
We found that the choice of food in the Oriental dining room not always to our taste and tended to use the buffet more. Some nights the food was excellent in the buffet e.g, the Bavarian night but on others it was nothing special.
Response from TaylorW, Social Team, Princess Cruises
Good position on the ship. Quite near the lifts. Quiet. Larger than most inside cabins in the Princess fleet. Easy/quick responding air conditioning control.
Large screen TV easy to operate.
just walked along Se17th St to Ross and TJ Maxx. Also a Dollar Tree, Walgreens, Winn Dixie, Publix and Payless shoes just off the same road. You can get a bus ir sun trolley to the beach.
Easy to walk into Charlotte Amalie from the ship. There is also a Kmart near Havensight docks for cheap clothing, sodas, shoes, cosmetics etc.
Docked at the commercial docks which involves either a shuttle bus intomthe town ir a 15 minute walk. Been many times. An easy walk to the Botanical gardens from the town main docking area.
Quick walk round the Carenage (shame it has gone downhill since the bew docking area was built).
Good snorkelling and diving. Easy to arrange your own through the internet.
Easy tomcatch a bus to the beaches. Bus station opposite exit from harbour.
Would recommend a trip to Nelsons Dockyard.
Easy walk into Castries from Port Seraphine or use a water taxi. The market is not as good or interesting as it used to be. If you feel like visiting a beach you can walk for about 15 mins turning left out of Port Seraphine, past the small airfield to Vigie Beach.
Easy walk into Bridgetown from the port and 10 mins further on to the beach or tomthe Boatyard where you can rent a beach chair and umbrella and get drinks. Entrance fee includes return trip to the ship. It does get busy though.
Now spoiled by development of cruise ship terminal shops. Many shops in the town have now closed as a result. It is a shame as they sold much better and more interesting goods than the tourist tat at the terminal.
