A very easy cruise, made even better by being within driving distance of home. We're an active couple in their 50's cruising to celebrate our 30th anniversary and this was our 6th cruise. The ship was huge and all full, but the crowding was really not an issue most of the time. Instead of viewing fellow passengers as annoyances, view them as entertainment. There's nothing better than to sit at the pub with a beer and watch the world go by.
Embarkation and disembarkation went amazingly smoothly; however, we would have appreciated a little more info at both steps. Things have changed with the times, and many steps are done by computer (such as taking a photo for the cards and getting the bill at the end.) Good, but it surprised us not to have the bill before disembarking. We were glad to speak to someone on the phone before the cruise who mentioned the importance of getting there early to sign up for Ripcord and Northstar. It was worth doing both, but especially the Ripcord experience!
The ship is gorgeous with plenty of novel touches. Our favorite spots were 270 and the Solarium. As far as service goes, the sports staff were amazing in their competence, calmness and professionalism. The rest of the staff on the ship seemed slightly less friendly than on past cruises. The productions were stunning: The Gift, We Will Rock You, and Spectra's Cabaret were all phenomenal. Some folks complained about The Gift but we enjoyed it immensely. The set, the music, singing, dancing, and even bike riding were amazing.
Other than a cleanliness issue the first day, we loved our cabin. The decor was pleasant as was the service. We never figured out how to hear announcements in the room, but it would have been nice to do that. We loved having no one around us smoking!
A fine opportunity to do a little shopping and have a beer, but the overall plan wasn't explained very well.
