Cabin: Junior Suite

Just returned from the 9-day Nav cruise to the ABCs. Our first time in a Jr. Suite was great, especially for a long cruise. We spent a lot of time on our cabin's balcony (1652) rather than try to fight for deck chairs. As usual, people grabbed the chairs in the solarium early in the a.m. and left their towels there all day. A couple of times we dragged loungers from the main pool area into the solarium (to get away from the noise and still have access to a pool) and during the space of about 3 hours we never saw anyone come to the four chairs next to us. Just towels and a couple of books (to make it legit, I guess). Be that as it may -- great to have that balcony even though it wasn't one of the deeper ones. It was plenty wide for the two of us to stretch out on loungers.

Next, our cabin attendant, Viktor, was superb. The best ever.

Next, the food: The MDR was the weakest part of this cruise. The food was consistently the worst we've had on RCI cruises. To be fair, our waiter was really burdened with four tables, 2 quite large, our 6-top, and a 4-top, and the two large tables had some, shall we say, very needy diners. The result was our food would arrive barely warm. The meats were overcooked and dry. The gluten-free bread was a joke -- little oval hockey pucks that were so dried out that they should have been an embarrassment to serve. We wound up in the Windjammer for several meals and these were much higher quality. We spoke to the WJ manager (who was always present) and complimented him on the variety and quality of the food there. Also in the WJ: a good variety of vegetarian and gluten-free items, all identified as such and in their own areas. A highlight was a delicious, chocolatey, fudge GF creation, in my opinion, the best dessert on board.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite

Cabin JS

Well-maintained, a good spot, a shallower balcony than some of the other Jr. Suites. The last two days at sea when we were traveling faster we noticed a pronounced, rhythmic vibration at night. I usually love whatever motion I feel in the ship but this was distracting and woke me up a few times. I mentioned it to friends who were in a cabin directly below us and they felt it too. Maybe something was off balance; kind of felt like a car that needed a tune-up.
