We choose this cruise because w/love the ports and it was also our first cruise on this ship. We flew from La Crosse, WI. to Miami on 2/11/17. We stayed the night before our cruise at the Embassy Suites Airport in Miami. We have stayed there many times in the past. We also stayed there one night after the cruise so we could delay our return by one day back to Wisconsin in the winter. We took a cab to the cruise terminal which cost us 26.00. We checked our luggage w/the porters at the pier (5.00) and were able to board the ship right away. We are platinum which is nice for boarding and leaving the ship.

Our cabin 6278 which is a 8B balcony cabin was ready and we checked our carry-on bags and headed to the Lido deck for lunch. Our cabin was nice and clean. The room steward did a great job. Plenty of storage and the balcony was small but nice for the two of us.

We liked all the ports, Amber Cove is a newer port and will need lots of work but we enjoyed our time there. We visited the fort just outside of Porta Plata. I will warn people reading this review if you are an animal lover like we are you will see lots of stray dogs and many not in good condition. We saw one dog laying dead right on a sidewalk. There is lots of poverty in this small town but w/Carnivals help we can see improvements being made to the roads and the port itself. In St.Thomas we just did some shopping and had some drinks and lunch at a little bar we have visited on past cruise. San Juan is one of our favorite ports and we took a shuttle to both forts outside of the city which was a lot of walking for an old guy like me (66). We had some drinks at a bar near the port itself and my wife Kelli did some shopping. Grand Turk is all about the beaches. This is my wife's favorite port. We stopped at Margritiaville and had snacks and drinks then back to the ship. We have done all these ports many time. The eastern caribbean cruises are what we really enjoy.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8B

The cabin was just fine. It was clean w/lots of storage. The balcony is small but fine for the two of us. The bathroom and shower were clean and worked fine. Our cabin steward did an excellent job. I believe his name was Iputo? The location was the best part! We were two floors about the dining room and very close to our favorite bar! When we book any cruise the cabin location is just about number 1 on our check list. We were very pleased w/our cabin!

Port Reviews

Miami

We have cruised a lot of Miami. Its very easy to get to the port and we love staying at the Embassy Suites Airport pre and post cruise!

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

This is a new port. It was our first visit on this cruise. There is lots of work to do w/the port itself as well as roads to the main city nearest the port. We visited a fort just outside the city, that was very nice. We also checked out the amber museum right in town. That was very interesting. We saw lots of stray dogs, some in poor condition, see my main review so if you are an animal lover like us be prepared. The people were friendly and we saw lots of police directing traffic. I guess my rating is more like a 3+.

San Juan

San Juan is my favorite port. We took the city shuttle to both forts just outside of the city. There is a lot of walking involved in touring these forts but the views are worth it. We took a cab back to the port and my wife got off to look at some street vendors and some shops and I stopped at Senior Frogs for drinks before heading back to the ship. Lots of fun. The forts are national parks so entrance fee's are very reasonable.

Grand Turk

My wife's favorite cruise port of all times. She loves the beach and we spend most of our time there. They do have a Margritaville so we stopped there before we headed back to the ship. Just another wonderful port!

St. Thomas

We like St. Thomas. You can take a shuttle from the port area to downtown. We like to check out a nautical shop right in the city center as well as other shops and then we stop at the same small outside bar for lunch and drinks. You can hope on any shuttle for the ride back to the port area. We always enjoy St. Thomas.
