Celebrity Eclipse Review

A little disappointed

Review for the Southern Caribbean Cruise on Celebrity Eclipse

We chose this cruise for the great itinerary, which was perfect. Our disappointment lies with the ship itself and the entertainment outside of the evening shows. The evening shows were pretty good. While we are a recently retired couple - we aren't 80 years old. The biggest disappointment was the lack of Caribbean feel, no music at the pool. A band came out on sea days at 3:45 and played till 4:30 and they were not playing any Caribbean music but tried some pop songs. We're used to fun activities at the pool on sea days, some lively entertainment. It was dull, lacked the bar service, we most times had to go up to the bar to catch a drink. The staff just wasn't fun, friendly, talkative. The music which played all throughout the ship at different lounges was extremely old and boring. The stores were just to high end items at high end prices. No deals there and no logo items, or fun gift ideas.

Then the dining room - so we chose the select dining for a little bit of flexibility, plus we were told the dress was a bit more relaxed as in previous years. Of course the first night you go as you are sort of since not everyone has their luggage. Second night was their 'chic' dress as they called it so we went to the buffet as we did not take suits and while suits were not required at least a sports coat or tie was required and would be strictly enforced as noted in the daily paper. Third night my husband wore long dress shorts and collared buttoned shirt. When we checked in for our table they refused to let him in saying he needed long pants. But the gentleman behind us had on faded jeans and a faded golf type shirt and tennis shoes, he was allowed to enter. Clearly my husband's attire was extremely neater than the other gentleman in jeans so we were embarrassed and offended at the way she spoke to him. Previously on Royal Carribbean my husband wore that same attire almost every night for dinner with the My Time Dining and was never turned away. So given the fact that he took only one pair of dress pants for a 14 day cruise we were forced to have most of our dinners in the Oceanview Buffet. And later we found out that the strictly enforced dress code for their 'chic dress' night (the old formal dress) was never enforced. Dress pants and button collared shirt was allowed entrance to the dining room.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda 2A

Our cabin was roomy, neat and very comfortable. Room steward did a great job. Initially I asked for ice and he kept the ice bucket full all the time. I even found him folding a T-shirt my hubby left on the couch. We did give him an extra $20 at end of cruise.

Port Reviews

Aruba

We did Trikes-Aruba, an excursion on our own. Fantastic experience, great people and just an awesome time. Everyone should do this at least once.

St. Lucia

Henry with Courtesy Taxis gave us a 3 hour island tour. He was extremely friendly, great tour and we really saw and learned a lot. Great tour for our first visit to St. Lucia. Highly recommend them, nice air conditioned van for our two couples.
