We booked our cruise on Expedia, and had a wonderfully helpful agent, Angela in Las Vegas, guide us through the process.  We booked a Guaranty Balcony Cabin and were upgraded to a concierge class.  In the past we have not had good luck with Guaranty Cabins, as we have ended up with blocked views, etc., but this cabin was superior. We had a HORRIBLE flight into Anchorage - the HVAC system was off kilter on the plane and it was about 85 degrees on the flight.  We got a nice cabbie who took us to the Courtyard by Marriot in Anchorage. Hotel was spotless, staff helpful.  Spent the next day recouperating from the flight, buying sundries at Walmart, and had great halibut sandwiches at Phyllis' bar and grill.Based on online reviews and suggestions, we took the Coastal Classic AKRR train from Anchorage to Seward.  It was an absolutely breathtaking trip.  We counted it as one of our "excursions" to justify the extra cost, but either way it was well worth it.  Get there early to avoid the tour busses, then you can take your time and look around the station. Also based on CruiseCritic reviews, I knew we would be able to get in to our cabin about 1 pm so after a little walk around the area, we made our way to the cruise dock, about 3/4 of a mile. I was surprised that there was no sidewalks to the pier, and we had to walk past a stinky fish cannery. We giggled and said we must be really in Alaska!  Forgot we had concierge class cabin and waited in the regular check-in line.  There was a huge family from Mexico with 5 cabins who were all using the same credit card, plus there was some alert about Mexican passports so they had to be all hand checked and it took a very long time.  Once they were finished the line went quickly, and our check-in was smooth. We boarded the ship, got our pictures taken, and had a glass of champagne. By then they announced our cabins were ready, at about 12:45, even though we did not sail until 9pm!  Our cabin was made up nicely into the queen we requested, had a bottle of champagne and a bowl of fruit.  John, our cabin steward met us at the door and opened the door for us.  Our luggage arrived about 2 hours later, after we had a wonderful sail-away buffet.  We got the unlimited stickers for soda on our SeaPass cards, but found not every area offered soda for ussometimes we had to walk far to get a soda, and I can't understand why.  They knew who we were and that we had unlimited stickers. Not happy that we spent $85 for two on this program.  Every day our fruit bowl was refilled, and a small plate of tasty hors devours were delivered to our room.  Nice!Overall, our cruise was excellent.  It was the first cruise on which I felt that the staff really cared whether we had a good time or not.  Other cruises went through the motions, but the Celebrity Millennium staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy.  We did have an outbreak of the Norovirus, but the crew went above and beyond to make sure everything was clean and reduced contact to a minium.  They did this all in a nice, polite way, even though they did not want to get sick either.  High praises to our steward John and all the housekeeping staff. We chose the late seating and a table for two in the Metropolitan Dining Room.  Here is where Celebrity shines!  We ate dinner at the Metro 6 nights out of 7, and almost felt bad that we had made reservations for the Millie's "upscale" restaurant, the Olympic. (More later about the Olympic.)  We had a marvelous dining staff, who exceded our expectations in all areas.  First of all, Akin, our waiter from Turkey, absolutely made our trip.  He was pleasant, helpful, cheerful, and all in a way without "lurking" like some waiters do.  He brought us extra dishes to try, extra desserts for my husband, recommended dishes and told us which ones to avoid.  He answered our questions patiently and honestly.  He made sure the other dining staff got us what we needed and arranged for a celebration of our 20th anniversary on our last night in the Metro. Carlos E, our assistant waiter, was excellent as well.  We enjoyed chatting with all our dining staff, including Arnold, our sommalier.  Everyday, Clarence, our bar steward had our preferences of sodas waiting for us when we arrived at dinner.  I even have to make a mention about our maitre d', even though I don't usually think much about them.  One night upon arriving for dinner, we were carrying in some drinks we had ordered while listening to some music in the Rendezvous Lounge.  All of the common areas had hand sanitizer to use before entering, and we were trying to juggle our drinks while cleaning our hands.  The maitre d' (and I'm sorry I can't remember his name!) took our glasses from us to help us out, and even though he had met us for about 2 seconds the night before out of a crowd of 1,000 people, he knew EXACTLY where our table was and carried our drinks there for us without looking back to see where we were headed.  We were astonished, and pleasantly surprised.  It was nice to hear the Captain's updates daily at noon, as on previous cruises we never heard from the captain the whole cruise.  A special mention about our Cruise Director, James Calhounhe again was one of the people who made the cruise so special.  He was absolutely cheerful, and I really felt he wanted everyone to enjoy themselves, not just sell extra packages, etc., like we have had on other cruises.  We even saw him in one of the local little restaurants in Ketchikan, the Burger Queen, and he was the same there as on the ship. He even made the disembarkation talk fun, and shared with us that this was his last cruise on his contract.Overall, we felt that the cruise was a bargain for what we paid.  I highly recommend getting a balcony for this itinerary, as it was way-cool to see the glaciers in your pajamas!  If you sail the Millie, it will be worth your while to ask to be in Akin and Carlos E's section in the Metropolitan.  On our last night, we ate at the specialty restaurant, the Olympic. The food was good, the staff was very attentive.  We ordered the five-course with wine pairing at $145 per person.  We found it similar to a high-end restaurant in Chicago.  But in the end, we would have been just as happy staying at the Metropolitan with the wonderful service we had every night. One lesson we did learn, was that in the "bigger" ports, (Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway) you can likely get an excursion for half the price of booking it through Celebrity. I guess for the first time we booked excursions this way it was nice to have someone at the end of the pier with a sign waiting for us, but next time we might just do them on our own.We will cruise Celebrity again.

Cabin Review

Cabin cc

Cabin 8056 Celebrity MillenniumWell laid out, balcony spacious, nice balcony furniture, newer carpet, newer bedding, comfortable bed.  LOTS of storage.  We never felt claustrophobic in it, not once in a whole week!  John was our cabin steward, and was there at least twice a day, but was like a ninjadid what he had to do and did it well, but never bothered us.
