My husband and I wanted to experience “Supercruising” so we booked a sampler on Ovation. We wanted to evaluate the ship before committing to a longer cruise.
We had previously been on Voyager, Explorer and Radiance out of Sydney.
The first sight of Ovation was from the Circular Quay railway station after alighting from our train. It was an awe inspiring moment. It is hard to take in the logistics of this ship. I just stood there taking it in for a few moments.
We had an interior stateroom with a virtual balcony on deck 11 forward. This was the first time in 5 cruises that we didn’t have a balcony. No regrets. As has been said time and time again, we were hardly in the room. Only to shower, change and sleep. I would still consider a balcony for longer trips though, especially to exotic or tropical places. The virtual balcony alerted us to the outside weather and conditions via a webcam on the stern. Being aft, there was a lot of walking. No problem really except the time it took to walk everywhere. Ideally, I would like to book deck 13 mid ship.
The shower on Ovation is the largest I’ve seen on any ship so far. Good pressure and temperature. It also has a bar step for ladies to shave their legs. Very thoughtful. The beds are hard and takes some getting used to… Like all Royal Caribbean ships, take your own toiletries, unless in a suite and above. There was adequate storage space and our suitcases fit under the bed no problem. We locked our jewelry, wallets and passports in the safe.
Sydney, the best harbour in the world :-)
