Once in a lifetime

Sail Date: July 2009
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

The Ruby Princess is a wonderful ship.  Staff were very attentive and friendly.  The common areas were very clean and well maintained.  Food was wonderful.  Don't miss the Crown Grill, well worth the $25 extra for a great meal.  Those who get a balcony room and you want an unforgettable, romantic, "lifestyles of the rich and famous" meal, reserve a balcony dining experience.  They only offer four per night, so reserve early.   For a quiet after dinner drink find Adagio on the 16th deck aft!  Try their variety of olives!

Unfortunately, wind prevented us from getting to Rome.  But the extra day at sea was a nice break.  This is a "marathon cruise", not for the "just relax" crowd.

We visit more than 6 ports, but he pull down did not allow for more.  Athens and Ephesus were the two not reviewed below.  Visit the ruins at Ephesus and see the Acropolis, they are not to be missed.  Both days More exceeded 100 degrees so bring an umbrella to creat your own shade! Less

Cabin review: Ruby Princess B750

Great view from balcony.  Had a structural support beam on the balcony, but the balcony was very large.  The room had its share of squeaks and "pops" in mild seas that was somewhat noisy.  Did keep the slider "propped" open all night to hear sea noises to overide the interior noises. The adjacent cabin had smokers and we had to shut our door when they were smoking on their balcony.

Port and Shore Excursions

Took a private tour - wonderful option. Beautiful city, because a private tour guide arranged everythihng, we did not have to wait in any lines!

E-mail Songul Aksu, songulaksu@hotmail.com - she was a great tour guide. The historic sites are all very close and once their you can walk everywhere. The Grand Bazaar is just that, bazaar. Shop in Turkey, the deals are the best.

Beautiful port, shore exursion on the boat to see the Palace and Old Monaco can be done on your own. Lots of walking and very hilly, but a beautiful area.

Find Marcello - www.seesorrento.com or marcellomaresca@tim.it - he will tour the Amalfi Coast from his perspective, you will not be subjected to the typical tourist shopping experience. A lunch that will forever be remembered!

What a great way to end the cruise. Take advantage of the cruise's water shuttle system, it is a very good deal. We walked around on our own for 5 hours - felt like 30 minutes, a discovery at every turn - get off the beaten path and away from the shops and it is a great city. Make sure you are in Saint Mark's Square at night after 9:30 p.m.!
