We took the inside passage cruise on the Zaandam from July 17-24, 2009.  We stopped in Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Victoria BC and spent a day cruising Glacier Bay.  My husband and I are middle-aged (44 & 57) with no children and we chose Holland America, in part, to avoid hordes of children.  Nevertheless, there were several screaming infants and toddlers aboard.  There were numerous shipboard activities for days at sea, some of which we enjoyed (e.g., wine tasting, cooking demonstrations, casino) and many that seemed to appeal to an older crowd (65+).  For the most part, we really enjoyed the musical entertainment in the various lounges and bars, although the singer for "Rachel and the HALcats" was so horrible we left the room when they performed.  I enjoyed curling up with a book in the Explorer's Lounge and Ocean bar during downtime.  Our cabin was very nice and fairly roomy.  Every crew member was extremely polite, helpful, and personable.  Our cabin steward greeted us by name and did an excellent job.  The port shopping advisor, Linda, was very helpful and the the dining room staff was exceptional.  The only major disappointment on board was the food. The taste ranged from poor to good, but nothing was exceptional.  Overall, I would rate the food as mediocre.  The best meal we had on the entire trip was at a local Mexican/Pizza/Fish & Chips place in one of the ports.  Frankly, I've had better food on a Carnival cruise.Overall, we had a good time and I'm really glad we took this cruise.
