Sail Date: Feb 2017
Cabin: Aft-Facing Balcony

My boyfriend and I wanted to escape the Midwestern winter and go somewhere warm so we sailed on the Norwegian Pearl in February 2017 to the Caribbean. We are ages 30 & 33 and had only been on one cruise each with family when we were teenagers. We do not have children.

The Pearl itself was a beautiful ship. It was very clean and the staff and crew were very nice. The ship has a very traditional aesthetic, but is still current and not outdated. Our experience aboard the ship and at the ports were good, but not spectacular. I was really hoping that I would be blown away on this cruise after reading so many raving cruisers who are seemingly obsessed with the crusing lifestyle, but I just don't think it's for me at this time. Maybe in 20 years! For now, I'm more interested in traveling to explore new cultures, not stuffing myself with food/ drink and blowing through money and buying things.

We sailed out of Miami on our 7-night voyage and our itinerary included Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; and Nassau, Bahamas. Each port brought something different and some were more appealing than others. Based on my experience I would recommend the following: Stay onboard in Jamaica. The vibe is off there and the locals are out to swindle tourists. In Grand Cayman, book a tour to snorkel and visit Stingray City. Rent a jeep in Cozumel and drive around the island and make stops at your leisure. In Nassau, book the Sip Sample and See tour to experience some true Bahamian hospitality and cuisine!

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Balcony

Cabin B1

My boyfriend and I really loved this cabin. Deck 9 is a great location with everything you want being just below you on decks 6 & 7, and above on decks 12 and 13! It is not the location for the lazy types as it is a bit of a walk from the stairs/elevators. Directly across the hall is the art gallery storage area and twice we encountered a hallway full of art piled up (you'd think they would treat the art a bit more carefully..) but it was not a problem at all.

The room is directly above the wake, and being in the back of the ship, you will not get an insane wind breeze at all. Sitting on the balcony is extremely comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed sleeping with the balcony door open each night to hear the soothing sound of the waves.

As far as space goes, there was plenty of storage space for all of our belongings. Although the room can accommodate 4 people, I cannot image 4 adults having a good time sharing that space. It was not small and I didn't feel claustrophobic, but it was not large by any means.

If I were to cruise again, I would love to be in an aft balcony.
