Sail Date: Feb 2017

As far as a cruise under one week, and a Galveston port, this cruise is a good value. Our sailing date, Feb. 6 had mostly senior groups and was a great getaway.

The spa fell short of expectations though. We elected to remain on Ship in Cozumel to go to the spa. Had a 2 pm appointment for hot stone massage, facial, and foot massage. Very inefficient staff! Over a half hour wait even though the place was empty. Then when I complained, they brought me back to a massage room that was freezing cold and told me to get ready because they weren't able to take me yet....no warm blanket, no music, no aromatherapy...real budget basement style. I elected to cancel on the spot. Wasted day in port.

We did go to the Valor steakhouse. The steakhouse had about 4 groups there with many tables available for the 7:30 seating. I know they say it fills up fast, but that did not appear to be the case on our cruise. While we enjoyed the meal, especially the appetizers, the dining room offers the same entrees for $20 per person extra. I don't think we will go again if we cruise Valor again. We were told that if you reserve and do not show up, they do not charge you, so that may have been the case for the empty tables. Knowing that, I would probably wait until we were aboard next time and then decide whether we wanted to go to the steakhouse or just enjoy the dining room instead.

Cabin 4H

Not sure about cabin category, but we enjoyed the 8th deck. Being a smoker, I would have preferred level 10 as it is closer to the smoking area. The cabin, was small, but compact. The shower excellent with great water pressure and lots of hot water. Super comfortable beds and pillows and light down like duvet cover on bed. Five star cabin steward, and convenient location to the elevator. Not noisy at all. Could hear faint dinging sometimes from the elevator, but nothing to annoy. Since we generally take interior cabins, this was a good choice.

The casino: Lots of slot machines, rather expensive though. The penny slots were minimum 30 cents and if you want to max out the play, most were $1.50 per pull. I didn't see more than a few quarter machines, mostly penny and dollar. Lots of blackjack tables (5-6), two roulette tables, and other card game tables as well.

Port Reviews

Galveston

Did not take a tour, but highly recommend taking the city tour in spring, summer and fall. The historic homes tours, and Moody Gardens.
