We have friends who love Oceania, and Oceania was enthusiastically promoted by our TA. We are trying all the lines that do World Cruises in the next 12 months so this is one. We were late getting in to rooms, until 5:45 pm, due to a Coast Guard inspection. We went right to Red Ginger, which was great. The weather was rough, so the Grand Cayman port call was cancelled and we had 2 sea days on the front end instead of one. The CG inspection and weather were not the issue with our suboptimal experience.
The excursion desk was not very helpful in rearranging booked excursions. We did a diving excursion, and there was plenty of room for more divers. One person we met on board was wait listed for this dive, and was never called by the Excursion desk. Our excursion in Guatemala took us on a bus which had a very poor audio system so the back half of the bus could not hear the guide, and the light in the bathroom was out. The other excursions were ok but not outstanding.
On to dinners after Red Ginger. Our next dinner was in the GDR with 2 other experienced Oceania couples. It took 3 hours start to finish, and everyone was annoyed. The food came out cool and the service was slow. Also the quality was not the "Best cuisine at Sea". Our cruises on Viking Sea and Paul Gauguin beat this.
Our TA chose this cabin for us because the veranda is very large compared to other rooms in this category. He was spot on. We use the veranda a lot and it was great.
Punta sur. It was ok but we should have booked a scuba dive instead. We are very familiar with Cozumel.
Excellent diving despite the conditions.
This was a decent beach day and we swam in the ocean for 1.5 hours. The snorkling is not very good.
We went to the Chamber of Commerce and got the free walking tour map. We did the whole thing before lunch. Went back for lunch, then went out again to walk Duval street. We walked 8 miles that day. Just a note that we brought on 7 bottles in Cozumel, so the 3 bottle limit to bring on wine for room consumption was not present on this cruise.
