We chose this cruise primarily for ship as the entertainment options are significant when considering traveling with a 7 and 15 old. As we've cruised no less than 20 times with RCCL, we fully understand the basic product and receive nice benefits as loyalty members; we enjoy Diamond Plus status.

The ports of call are just o.k.. San Juan is lacking in excitement although it's rich in history, Labadee is a lot of fun and St Marteen has limited family friendly fun given the distribution of ages in our group.

The ship is filled with lots to do however our impression is that at its size, service and quality suffers in many ways that while often subtle are evident to the experienced cruiser.

Cabin Review

Owner's Suite with Balcony

Cabin OS

The Owners Suite is our favorite as we've had one aboard the Navigator twice and the Oasis once. We've sailed in the Crown Loft Suites before but find that the while beautiful, the functionality in the Owners Suite is superior. The room was beautifully maintained and serviced and has ample storage for two adults and two kids. The Suite Attendant was among the best we've ever had and the cruise staff went well out of their way to recognize that we'd paid for a first class experience and to deliver it. At one point, we had to start giving away some of the snacks and treats that kept coming our way, we literally had plates of cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, specialty desserts and canapés stacked high on the dining table.

One issue that I did find upsetting was the disagreement between he cruise lines brochure and the actual onboard practice regarding PlayStation availability in the suite. The brochure states the system and games are available however that is not the case. We did persuade the Concierges to install a PlayStation as an accommodation however game availability was quite limited as I was informed that the Genies control the games and Star Class suite guests get first choice. Even when presented with their own literature printed off the RCCL site, the Concierges were of little help.

Port Reviews

San Juan

The forts are a short walk away from the dock and a pretty cool an inexpensive way to entertain the kids. One entrance fee allows for entrance to the two ports and if walking is difficult, a free shuttle runs a continuous loop around town. There's plenty of shopping for most anything you can imagine and in the immediate old town area, we always felt safe.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

This port is similar to others all over the country and world. At times it can be very busy and hectic but given the number of boats, vehicles and people that move through a relatively small area, its fairly efficient. It is easily accessed from the freeways, local streets and within a five minute drive to the airport. Given the proximity to the airport, bus services and rental car services are relatively easy to arrange and utilize.
