We were aiming to visit Macquarie Island and Ponant were one of the few companies that make this journey, although we knew from the outset that the final itinerary was always dependant on the weather and sea conditions. This was classed as an 'expedition' cruise and it exceeded our expectations, being full of adventure (zodiac outings, wildlife and scenery). Indeed Ponant did all the could to maximise our opportunities to visit as many of the destinations as the weather permitted. Our journey to the subantarctic Islands was memorable and the French flair and style was all around us, so we didn't do it too tough! Cabin very stylish and comfortable. They displayed great environmental stewardship of all our activities and excursions. Staff wonderful, oodles of great food, although being French they like their meat on the rare side. Dessert pastries were to die for! The expedition staff were of the highest calibre and there were excellent talks and lectures on the sea days. We came away much better informed about the challenges in these pristine environments, including the effects of plastics in the worlds oceans. Would we go again? Absolutely!
