My boyfriend and I both wanted to experience Central America and go through the Panama Canal. For Christmas he surprised me with a cruise. He had experienced Holland America cruising before, and raved about it. This was my first time on a large cruise ship. I can't say enough about the pampering and quality of the experience. The Rotterdam is a mid-sized ship, luxuriously and elegantly appointed, sparkling clean everywhere, and staffed with a top notch team of restaurant, hotel, and other staff. An endless variety of Chef-prepared food was available 24 hours a day. We could dine in our stateroom, choose from a huge buffet with many specialty stations, or enjoy the formal dining rooms. Our comfortable cabin was looked after twice daily by our attendant, who deftly came and went without disturbing us. They cheerfully accommodated our every want and need. We were truly treated like royalty. Our cruise was 15 days, and we did not want it to end. The music and entertainment was fabulous. Shore excursions were well-planned and though they were an extra charge, they were a good value. I can't wait until our next cruise, which will probably be our honeymoon, since my boyfriend proposed to me on the Rotterdam.
Very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Our comfy king sized bed was placed in front of a large ocean view port-light (window), and was flanked by bedside tables with drawers. There was ton of storage, a nice vanity/desk with large mirror, a lighted make up mirror, a flat screen tv, a couch and table which could be adjusted in height for dining or coffee table. The ample lighting was adjustable for mood or task, and was stylishly done. The carpet looked new and felt good under bare feet. The bathroom was kept sparkling clean and had a shower/tub and even a line to dry clothes if needed. The tile floors and walls were lovely. Over all, the cabinets and other fixtures and furnishings were very fine quality. It felt like a luxurious hotel room. The towels were thick and thirsty, and the bath towels were over-sized. I loved the white robes they furnished for the cruise.
