A friend and I chose this cruise because it wasn't terribly expensive, and we wanted to join the group of 60 people whose main interest was playing duplicate bridge.
The only other Royal Caribbean cruise that I have taken was 25 years ago. It stands out in my mind because, despite the good things I had heard about the food on cruises, I did not care for the food. I'm not sure that it has improved in all that time. I have cruised 16 times and always very much enjoyed the food on other cruise lines. For instance, I was surprised not to have daily special chocolate desserts, but as I mentioned, the cruise was not terribly expensive.
To be fair, I am now on a low salt diet. Therefore, at dinner I was served food without any salt. No wonder I wasn't thrilled, right? I appreciated their catering to my need, but there was food that others at my table of 10 had, that I didn't.
The cabin was very nice. We had everything we needed except an outlet by the bedside for my CPAP machine.
It wasn't terrible. We just didn't take an excursion in Galveston. Friends drove us to the ship from Houston.
A group of 5 of us went to Pancho's Backyard and had a wonderful time there -- shopping, eating Mexican food, enjoying the marimba band, and, of course, the awesome margaritas.
We had a good time walking around the port area seeing all the many things that were for sale. It was very safe. Someone even played and sang "Jamaica Farewell" while we were there.
