We have stayed with RCI for a lot of reasons but primarily because of their loyalty program. Also Tampa is an easy port to use. We picked this cruise as it was a screaming deal with a Grand Suite. We had friends and our adult children go with us on this cruise to ring in the new year. Each ship has a personality and we have come to like the personality of this class of ship. Our favorite is the Jewel but the Brilliance is a very close second.

Like most that review Royal, not everything is perfect. The food in the MDR is fine but nothing to make it fantastic. I never order steak in the MDR as it is unpalatable. RCI may as well remove it altogether. I would rather order the sliders (yes sliders are on the menu every night.) than the beef selections. The optional steak offerings are good but not great. We love to do the chef's table where the steak offerings, preparation and presentation there is as good as you can find. Tip: Follow the recommendations of your waiter -- They know what's good and great.

Chef's Table, Chops Grill and Giovanni's Table are all spectacular. Yes, I know there is a fee $70 or so for CT and $30 or so per person for the others. The only reason we had gone to the MDR is to meet new people. RCI gave up a long time ago trying to seat people based on some potential common interests. It's a crap shoot now if you happen to get seated with a group that you enjoy. We do miss that aspect of the MDR. My wife seldom goes into the Windjammer. I go there for breakfast. Others have said it before and I will say too that the food is just okay. Pastries are dry and not worth the effort. Long lines waiting for omelets and other made-to-order items are not worth the trouble.

Cabin Review

Grand Suite

Cabin GS

What's not to like about a Grand Suite on Royal? The service and amenities are great. We had tended to go with a JS or GS not only because of the comfort but also because Royal gives you double C&A points for a Suite. Unfortunately we have a hard time going in a standard cabin when suites are not available. We are now Diamond Plus with a very long way to go to make Pinnacle we will likely still book Suites since we are spoiled.
