Sail Date: Jan 2017

My husband and I took this cruise for our 20th anniversary. We sailed out of Jacksonville for a 4 day cruise. Initial first impressions of the ship were that it is older. The decor inside is a bit gaudy with all the brass and loud patterns, but it was well maintained and very clean. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of our room. We had a oceanview king room. We had plenty of room for our belongings and "other stuff" we'd gather throughout the trip. We had heard that the showers are really tiny on Carnival ships, but you could fit 2 people in ours if you wanted to. We attributed that to the age of the ship. Bed as so-so comfortable. Window was dirty and we couldn't see out well, which was a bummer.

For dinner, our waiter was good. I had heard the wait staff was excellent on Carnival ships, but ours was about average. He was really good the first night and the other 3 nights seemed distracted. The food was disappointing. The lobster supplier didn't make it to the ship in time, so there was no lobster for the entire trip. A lot of the food on the dinner menu was "fancy schmancy" and not our style, so we ended up getting steaks and paying the $20 upcharge for them. Portions are small, but you can have as many as you want, so that was good. We used that option with appetizers! Shrimp cocktail every night, Baby! Dessert was really good. If you see the Nutella Tiramasu, GET IT! It was fantastic. Cocktails were about the same price as they are on land and they were generous with the alcohol.

The ship itself had lots of places to go and hang out and see shows or listen to music. Everything is spaced nicely and there are plenty of places to sit. We went to the Hasbro Game Night show and that was a lot of fun. Day 2 in Freeport - Loved Freeport. We weren't planning to get off there because we had a shore excursion planned in Nassau, but the little straw market right off the ship was so cute, we had to go check it out. Don't go to Senor Frogs - it's not a family restaurant and the service is horrible. We left because no one ever came to our table. Went to the burger place there and had the best burger and authentic jerk chicken. There's a great wood-carving shop there too with lots of great treasures. Everyone was really friendly.

Cabin Review

Cabin Oceanview 7E

I believe all of Deck 7 (Empress) is below the galley (hence why our offer to upgrade our room from deck 5 to 7 was only $20). I would not stay on this deck again. Shower was a great size with a hand shower and excellent water pressure and temps.
