While the weather was rotten, cold and wet more than sunny and warm, the trip was excellent thanks to a great crew and an fantastic trip director. The sights along the river were awesome, with lots of Roman ruins to explore and delightful shops to visit. The best part of the trip was a surprise, a night walk in Vivier. The Roman collosium in Arles was a pleasant surprise.
Unfortunately we were not quite prepared for the weather, but the ship was always warm and comfortable, and being greeted wiith a warm cloth or hot drink on our return was appreciated by all. The entire trip was full of new experiences and places to visit. My husband and I are seasoned travelers but with this river cruise, there was always something new around the next bend. The local guides were all well versed in their communites and presented us with just enough information to give us a taste of each community, but not so much as to overloaded.
We recommend it highly to all who appreciate the way Viking treats its travelers as family.
There was plenty of space for everything that needed to be stored, and while the weather did not allow for much veranda sitting, the view was still pleasant.
It was raining when we got to the vineyard, and we had neglected to take an umbrella. Our Cruise Director gave us his! It made the tour tolerable.
Good wine, we bought 2 bottles.
The Palace of the Popes was interesting from an historical standpoint. The city was easy to explore on our own, which we did after the scheduled tour.
The intact Roman colossium was fantasttic, a miniture version of the one in Rome, except it is still being used! Thoughout this trip we were surprised that every city on the trip had Roman ruins to explore. Walking in Arles was not difficult and we enjoyed some exploring on our own.
