Sail Date: Aug 2016
Wine Festival we stumbled upon in Breisach.
Docking with another Viking ship.
Marksburg Castle as seen from the river.
Cogwheel train to the top of Pilatus (Luzern)
My husband eating Swiss Fondue with a pretzel.
Strasbourg during our walking tour.
Cheese market in Haarlem.
Shutting down the wind mill in Kinderdijk (wrapping the sails).

The ship was adequate in size and mostly quite comfortable. Compared to our other cruises on Windstar, the cabin was about the same, food was comparable, and the number of passengers greater. Amenities on the ship were a little sparse, ie. no exercise room, casino, ship's store, etc. compared to small ones on Windstar. The included onshore excursions were great and the days we opted to just walk around on our own, there was plenty to do and see. (We even stumbled upon a Wine Festival. It would have been nice to know ahead of time - samples were given out to those who had glasses - , but the focus was always on the excursions and that day both excursions were extra.) Entertainment on the ship was educational and interesting. The main complaint was that the tipping was not included and needed to be done in Euros. (On Windstar it was comprehensive and tips were only given for special services.) We had great service in Basel during our pre-cruise stay and Kia advised us to go to Luzern instead of going on the walking tour since we would have another prior to departure and it was going to be very hot. Her information about everything was excellent. The provided mobility ticket for the trams made the stay even better! The second night was pretty noisy because of a street fair, but otherwise accommodations were great. In Amsterdam, we also stayed an extra two days, taking the Haarlem trip (extra) which was very enjoyable. Our tour guide in Amsterdam was also very good.

Cabin Review

Cabin French Balcony

The room was ample in size with just enough room to get around the bed. Stowing the luggage underneath the bed was difficult but only had to be dealt with at the beginning and end of the cruise. The French Balcony was adequate, an upgrade to balcony would have been nice but I would not have wanted to have only a port hole.
