We took our 18 year old niece and her sister along with us on Adventure of the Seas and it was spectacular. Carrying my Celebrity Captain's Club Select status to RCI's Platinum status has to be the best perk I've gotten from Captain's Club yet. We flew from Newark on Saturday and stayed at the Courtyard MIramar (which I wouldn't do again as they screwed up my reservation slightly) On Sunday we toured the Fort in Old San Juan in the morning, then went to the Pan American Pier to board Adventure of the Seas. With our Platinum status, we went strait to the Diamond and Platinum member bag drop to check our bags, then were told to head right inside, bypassing a solid 90 minute line. Check in went quickly and we were aboard and having lunch by 3. The ship was very nice and well kept. Our cabin #6200 forward on Deck 6 was a family cabin that normally is meant for a group of 5, but we were lucky to find it available a couple of weeks before the cruise and the rep got her supervisor to release it to us, so we had 265 sq feet for 4 of us. Nice. With two teenagers in our group, the teen disco was a great place for them to go and make new friends, and they did very quickly after dinner the first night and sailaway from San Juan. We hit Aruba, Curacao, Dominica and St. Thomas on this itinerary. We liked the ports, doing beach days on Aruba and St. Thomas. The shows on the ship were well produced, but the highlight was the Ricky Nelson Remembered show featuring Ricky's twin sons Matthew and Gunnar and a surprise appearance by their younger brother Sam. Matthew and Gunnar did Ricky's songs, a couple of their own including "Just Once More" a very moving song which shows just how much they miss their father. They also showed some home movies and clips from "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" that were fascinating to the older people who used to watch the long running sitcom on TV. The brothers were very nice guys who took the time for everyone who wanted a picture and/or an autograph or just to reminisce about their dad (which were a lot of people). The food on the ship was great and always well presented and the cruise director and his entertainment staff were terrific. The captain of the ship was entertaining as well and most pleasant when we got to speak with him in person. Except for the casino being mean to us we had a great trip and a gift to remember for the young ladies. The pool deck was nice, but my favorite was the adults-only Solarium just forward of the main pools. 2 nice whirlpools and a much less crowded swimming pool made this my favorite spot to lounge about. In all, we were quite pleased with the quality of the experience.
