Embarkation: Started out quick and easy. We arrived around 12:45. First lines were really fast. Then we were given group numbers and went into a large area with seating to wait for our group to be called. This took quite a while, even though it had been going quickly when we arrived. They made an announcements that tides had caused them to only use one gangway and that slowed things down. We finally got on at around 1:45 and we were able to head directly to our cabins. Dining: Although we had requested late seating, we were wait-listed and on the advice of our agent, we switched to anytime. First night, we went down at about 7:30 and waited less than 5 minutes in the Island dining room. Our waiter wasn't very good (we got our food, but he never spoke to us) so while we were leaving, we mentioned it to the Maitre d' and he told us he'd make us happy the next night. He was true to his word and we were seated with two marvelous servers. We told the Maitre d' how happy we were and we had that same table every night for the rest of the week at 8 pm. Food was deliciouslots of choices, and we truly enjoyed getting out of dinner a little ahead of the 10:30 show and not having to rush to the Theater. Entertainment: Production shows were among the very best I've ever seen. Very talented singers and dancers. Several comedians, who also did adult only late shows. There is one lounge singer (Crooners) named Martin Kaye who does a fabulous show every night from 9:30 on. They had him appearing in the theatre one night, and it wasn't as enjoyable. He's a great entertainer, but we found him to be better in the smaller setting. Saying that, he really needs a larger setting. Crooners is a small area, and the crowds block the hallways and walkways while he's performing. Another (small) complaint about himhe's got his "groupies" who grab the same seats every night and spend the full 3 hours there. Makes it very difficult for anyone else to get in. They are constantly talking to each other and to him, making everyone else feel left out. They took all the front row seats in the Theater the night he was thereand continued to shout from the seats and wave glow sticks during his whole performance. The band that played at the main pool and in one of the lounges was fantastic. Can't think of their name, but they were really fun. Buffets: What can I say? Enough food to feed a few countries. Nice variety, wonderful service. Strange when Caribe kept closing down at 2 pm and we had to go on into Horizon. No problem getting seats in either. Very important to get seats first, and then take turns going for food. Air Conditioning: This needs to be said. It wasn't good. The rooms were cool, but not cold. The 7th floor was the warmest-casino awful. When we asked, we were told they've had the problem since dry-dock when the casino was moved. The are having an engineer come on-board on July 20th to work on the problem. What about the rest of us? Even without the air working properly, they still had smoking nights in the casino which made it unbearable (especially to me, an asthmatic). Ports: We didn't get into Bermuda. Channel had very strong winds (gale force) early that morning, so the captain made the decision to pass Bermuda. Gave us an extra fun day at sea. One passenger was attacking him (verbally) on the 6th floor after the announcement. She really went off on him. We gathered around and told him that we supported his decision. San Juan was fine. We've been there on so many cruises, so we just took a taxi to tour a little with friends who were never there and then returned to the ship early. St. Thomas Beaches as beautiful as ever. We took a tour with Sunny Liston. $$ can't be beat. $25 per personto town for shopping-on a tour through the mountains to highest pointthe old place burned down several months ago so now they go to the Botanical Gardens at St. Peters and the view of all the islands is just breathtaking (maybe too breathtakingI missed a step and wound up getting hurt)-and then to our choice of beaches (Magens, Coki or Sapphire). Having been to the first two, we chose Sapphire (at a resort, no entrance fee, $7 for chairs, no deposit). And we spent time there before our driver (Elvis) picked us up for the ride back to the ship. Had we done this on cab rides ourselves, the charges would have been much greater. Grand Turk This is more like a private island. Most tours were canceled due to the hurricane last Sept. (Ike) The island is in bad shape. We rented a golf cart from Nathan Smith and rode around the island. Unfortunatley there wasn't much to see. We were there on a Sunday and what hadn't been knocked down was closed. We came back to the port (beach/pool). It was sooooo crowded that we returned to the ship and sat at the pool. We had been told by some of the ship's crew that when we docked at Grand Turk (1pm) people were racing off the ship to get beach chairs. Not worth it to me. Disappointed that the cruise went so quickly. We had a fantastic time. Our friends who had never cruised before are now hooked. Other friends who we had met last Dec. on a Panama Canal cruise on Jewel of the Seas, flew east from CA and joined us and were also thrilled. We took advantage of the future cruising deals and put down $100 each for another cruise. By the way, the medical staff was wonderful (remember my fall in St. Thomas). Although the xrays on board showed no break, it turns out I do have a chip fracture in my wrist. Not enough to keep me from planning my next cruise!!Hey I also won $200 at bingo!!

Cabin Review

Cabin N

We were in an inside cabin on Baja deck 11.  Our cabin was B320.  Close to mid-ship, heading forward.  Very quiet.  Typical inside cabin.  We liked the fact that the closet, shelving and bathroom had their own little alcove.  Plenty of room for all of our stuff.  We don't feel the need for anything bigger since we spend so little time in the cabin.
